THE
second of Devon's one-day friendlies against Aussie
tourists Victoria U25s went the same way as the first
– washed out without a ball being bowled.
Devon were due to play the
tourists, a mixture of contracted State players and
up-and-coming youngsters, in two 50-over games at Torquay
Recreation Ground.
Tuesday's match was called off early, but yesterday's
game suffered a lingering death while both sides sat
around in the pavilion hoping the weather would improve.
It didn't and the match was called off at lunchtime.
Devon officials are hoping
for better weather for the final Minor Counties Championship
game of the season, which starts on Sunday at Exmouth
where Oxfordshire are the visitors.
Devon are out of the running for the Minor Counties
title this season, but could finish as high as second
if they defeat Oxfordshire and Shropshire lose to champions
elect Cheshire.
With relatively little on the game – no one remembers
who finished second – the Devon selectors are
toying with the idea of making some changes.
Plympton spin bowler Arwyn Jones can't play due to a
prior commitment and Sandford all-rounder Trevor Anning
is still suffering from the chest injury that ruled
him out of the last game against Cornwall.
Youngsters James Burke (Exmouth) and Lewis Gregory (Plympton)
are in contention for places, as is Exeter's Adam Gribble
as a straight swap for Jones.
