TORQUAY
got off the mark in the Meek Mortgages Torbay Twenty20
with a narrowish seven-run win over visiting Barton.
It looks quite close in the final analysis, but Barton
were nearly always behind the run rate and couldn't quite
catch up.
The turning point was the fourth and last over of his
ration from Torquay left-armer Jon Baglow, in which he
nipped out Greg Shelton and Adam Parker without conceding
a run.
Baglow had four of the five wickets down in Barton' total
of 46 and with 12 overs left it was always going to be
an uphill task.
Haydn Morgan batted through against his former club to
make 33 not out, but 22 off last two overs and 14 off
the final one proved beyond him and Nick Watkin as Barton
finished with 117 for seven.
Torquay, who won the toss and batted, got over a middle
order stumble that threatened to derail them after Matt
Bulbeck (38) had given them a solid start.
Torquay slipped from 54 for two to 74 for five –
Parker and Tom Porter among the wickets – but got
going again as James Hudson (35) and Tim Western (20)
put on 40 for the sixth wicket.
The six-match qualifying tournament to find to finalists
continues when Torquay visit Paignton next Wednesday night
(June 13).
