SIDMOUTH
retained the East Devon Twenty20 title and the Bradbury
Bats/Someret County Sports Trophy that goes with it
when they defeated Axminster by exactly 100 runs in
the final
Sidmouth, who had home advantage in the final,
set off at 10 an over and never fell below that rate
on their way to a final total of 208 for nine.
Anthony Griffiths made 58 with seven fours and three
sixes and put on 49 for the first wicket with Nick Gingell
(18).
Griffiths put on another 65 with Neil Hancock before
becoming the first of three wickets for Danny Larcombe.
Josh Bess maintained the tempo with 34 and, although
some good catching saw wickets fall regularly, the runs
flowed freely.
Axminster's early progress took a knock when Gingell
took two slip catches off Murray and Hancock.
Another setback came when Pete Hayball top-edged a ball
from Barlow into his forehead and retired hurt, although
he came back later in the innings.
All the Sidmouth bowlers enjoyed success as Axminster
struggled to maintain the required rate after an initial
flurry.
The best figures came from Fraser Hanson (3-23) and
Will Murray (2-18) as Axminster were all out for 108
in the 18th over.
