HOLDERS
Bovey Tracey are on the way out of the Newton Twenty20
following their three-run defeat by Kingskerswell in
the latest round of fixtures in Group Two.
Kerswell, who play their league cricket four divisions
below Bovey, shocked the holders by beating them in
the first round of fixtures.
And they did it again on Wednesday night by successfully
defending a total of 127 for five.
Kerswell now have five points from three matches played
and Bovey can't catch them even if they beat South Devon
in their final match in two weeks time.
South Devon can still collect five points by beating
Kerswell and Bovey Tracey and would go through having
beaten the side they finished level with. The first
meeting between Kerswell and South Devon was rained
off.
Kerswell can lose to South Devon next Wednesday night
and still reach the final, providing South Devon slip
up against Bovey.
West Indian Sergio Fedee and Paul Mitchell were Bovey's
undoing last time the sides met, both made half centuries,
and the same pair did it again.
Mitchell kept one end going for 21 while Fedee hit an
unbeaten 67 that contained five fours and two sixes
and came off 42 balls.
Bovey were going well at 102 for four with five overs
left – Peter Bradley (36) and Matt Makepeace (43)
among the runs – but slowed against Paul Harding
(2-18) and Fedee (2-28) as the overs ticked down.
The target was nine to win off the last over, bowled
by Fedee, and Bovey lost two wickets only making making
six of them – one a run out off a no-ball.
Kingskerswell 127-5 (S Fedee 67no, P Mitchell 21, M
Kenyon 13; C Carter 2-14), Bovey Tracey 124-9 (P Bradley
36, M Makepeace 43, B Ayres 11; S Fedee 2-28, P Harding
2-19). Kingskerswell bt Bovey Tracey by 3 runs.
