ABBOTSKERSWELL
got off to a winning start in the Newton Twenty20 with
a 14-run victory over Dawlish & Teignmouth.
Abbots totted up 125 for seven then
bowled battling D&T out for 111 with an over to
go.
Steve Short was the anchorman Abbots
batted around as he was ninth out for 31 with the score
on 120.
Abbots lost James Brown in the first
over, but Brad Wright (29) and Danny Full (23) repaired
the damage by putting on 52. Short had support from
Marcus Green (22) as he pushed the score along.
Dawlish & Teignmouth suffered
a triple setback when they slipped from 20 without loss
to 26 for three, Billy Alcock had 20 of the runs scored
when he was among the victims, but regrouped through
Karl Blackburn (27) to make a game of it.
Jamie Day (15) and Rob Fisher (14)
kept going right to the end, but their efforts were
in vain.
Brown more than made amends for his early exit with
the bat by taking four for 25 with the ball.
Dave Palmer (2-13) and Green (2-19)
both bowled tidily for Abbots.
