The
victorious Tavistock team who defeated Lewdown in the
Kaminski Property Rentals T20 final
HOLDERS
Tavistock retained the Kaminski Property Rentals Twenty20
title when they defeated Lewdown by four wickets in
the final on their own ground,
The day-long cricket fiesta, only in its second year,
is fast becoming a favourite on the cricket calendar.
Eleven teams entered this season's competition, with
six qualifiers - Buckland, Calstock, Lifton, Lydford,
Milton Abbot and the Ordulph Arms - battling it out
in the first round last month for a place on finals
day with Tavistock, Bridestowe, Lewdown, Yelverton Bohemians
and Whitchurch Wayfarers.
Tavistock beat Whitchurch and Bridestowe to win through
their group on finals day. Lewdown's youthful
side beat Lydford and the Ordulph to qualify from their
section - amazingly not losing a wicket in either game.
Lewdown made a respectable 111 in the final with Ed
Squire hitting a half century. Youngsters Josh Stephens
and Dominic Scaglioni made 16 each.
Tavistock's reply was built around Dave Downham, whose
49 not out steadied the ship when wickets were tumbling.
Despite the best efforts of Lewdown's canny young captain
Harry Gearing, and bowlers Ben Williams and James McGahey,
Tavistock went on to win by four wickets.
Lewdown's consolation in defeat, which must have been
hard to take after they lost to Hatherleigh days earlier
in the Lancaster Cup, was that Squire won the man of
the match award.
