Kingsbridge Corinthian

Cup Champions

Kingsbridge defeated B Division Exeter St James in an exciting Corinthian Cup Final at Brixham. The match ebbed and flow with Kingsbridge coming out winners with four balls remaining. In the semi-final at Stoke Gabriel they had disposed of another C Division team when they beat Hatherleigh who batted first and scored 166-6. Leading run scorer was Dean Rice with 36. Kingsbridge had a rocky start but Richard Carr showed everyone what he can do with the bat when he stroked an exciting 72. He was aided and abetted by his club captain Steven Inch who saw his side home with an undefeated 52. At Brixham the ten man Exeter St James beat Bradninch with 4 overs to spare. Bradninch batted first and thanks to two young Devon players Tim Piper (31) and Ross Acton (54) reached 163-9 with Stuart Shaw taking 4-44. The experienced Exeter side batted well as a unit to pass their target. Exeter were inserted in the final and never were in real control with Carr and Neil Peach bowling well at the start. They built up momentum with keeper Ryan Kerry top scoring with 32. Kingsbridge lost Doyle in the first over and were struggling, despite a bright 39 from Carr, to keep up to the required run rate when Neil Peach and Chris Browning let loose with some tremendous free hitting that took the ten men out of the game with just a few balls to spare. The Devon Cricket Board thank Brixham and Stoke Gabriel for their hospitality and the umpires for what may well be the last final in the competitions current format.  Home Page
