AFTER
the previous week's two cancelled matches (Southwesters
and Somerset Stragglers) the Dumplings managed to play
a very damp game at Exeter against the Strollers.
The match was played in miserable conditions
with outbreaks of drizzle recurring. Because of the
wet outfield the over rate was slow.
The Dumplings batted first and made a very slow start
with Marshall Hood (35) and Mike Rawnsley (24).
Gareth Tidball (43) and Houston Engel (52) accelerated
the scoring rate but when they were out the innings
subsided, from 143 for 2 to 177 for 7 declared, in 48
overs. K Rutherford took 4 for 56 in 16 overs and D
Jones 2 for 9 in 2 overs.
The Strollers needed only 32 overs to score 178 for
3, with P Arnold 71 not out, D Lawrence 29 and M Way
40.
