BRAUNTON have already got through half a dozen of their 16 Division Two matches and are on course for a return to the top flight after a fourth straight victory in a thrilling finish at Barnstaple & Pilton.

    The home side reached the final over of the game needing 11 to win with their last pair at the wicket, but with Steve Moles unbeaten on 31 at the other end Ian Wheatley's wicket sealed the game and Braunton claimed a five-run win.

    Andy Paddison top scored with 54 and Ian Roberts chipped in with 21 as Braunton were restricted to 146-8, Jamie Powell the pick of the home bowlers with 3-25 for Barum who replied with runs from Andrew Barton (37) and Michael Paine (19) but it was the late order hitting of Steve Moles (31no) that took his side close to a thrilling win, but the wicket of Ian Wheatley in the final over settled the issue.

   

    Mike Canning hit an unbeaten 82 and Pete Whitby weighed in with 69 as Sandford II completed a comprehensive Division Three win at Creedy Park over a Bratton Fleming side who were bowled out for 127 facing the home side's imposing 241-8.

    The hosts match winner with the ball was 15 year old Ryan Glass, the young off-spinner claimed his first ever Senior cricket 'fiver' with figures of 5-22 as only Martin Southcott (46) got to grips with the bowling.

 

Division Two:

    Braunton 146-8 (A Paddison 54, I Roberts 21; J Powell 3-25), Barnstaple & Pilton 141 (A Barton 37, S Moles 31no, M Paine 19; J Spencer 3-28, B Huxtable 2-28, M Mitchell 2-32). Braunton (20pts) bt Barnstaple & Pilton (10) by 5 runs.

 

Division Three:

   Sandford II 241-8 (M Canning 82no, P Whitby 69; O Hunt 3-29, T Batson 3-52), Bratton Fleming II 127 (M Southcott 46; R Glass 5-22). Sandford II (20pts) bt Bratton Fleming II (2) by 114 runs.
