Scorecard

DEVON Lions will want to avoid another mauling when they face the Dorset Leopards at Hamworthy CC on Sunday.

Devon’s development side opened their summer programme last Sunday at Halesowen, where they met the Warwickshire Academy XI.

The Bears racked up 428 all out in a 50-over match, helped by a 45-yard boundary on one side of the ground.

Harry Johnson (125) and Scotland U19 batsman Finlay McCreath (113) both made centuries for Warwickshire. Will Rigg was on 95 when Lions rookie James Allen trapped him lbw.

Spinner Allen (1-70) was one of only two bowlers of the eight bowlers used to go for seven an over or less. Ashley Causey (0-24) was the other.

Devon were all out in reply for 197 with more than nine overs to go, Harvey Sargent top scoring on 46.

Sargent, Jamie Khan (20) and George Allen (32) got the Lions up to 134 for three, but from then on they went into a steady decline. Only Causey (26) and Allen (19) made it into double figures in the bottom half of the order.

Sidmouth’s Tom Moore has been brought in to keep wicket against Dorset, releasing George Allen from the dual role of captain and keeper.

Paignton left-armer Cole Harford gets a first outing, as does his all-rounder club-mate Harry Ward.

Hatherleigh paceman Sean Lethern gets a chance to shine after bowling well in the Premier Division.

Jacob Caunter, Plympton’s promising left-arm orthodox bowler, is another new pick.

Ed Doble, the off-spinning all-rounder from Budleigh Salterton will also make his debut.

Bovey Tracey’s Abraham Kopparambil, whose appearances have been limited by a commitment to school cricket, also comes into the 12-man travelling party.

Devon Lions: G B Allen (Torquay), T O Moore (Sidmouth), E S Doble (Budleigh Salterton), C F Harford (Paignton), C Cabburn (Heathcoat), S Letheren (Hatherleigh), M J Petherbridge (Plymouth), J Degg (Plympton), J Caunter (Plympton), J A T Khan (Exeter), H C B Ward (Paignton), A S Kopparambil (Bovey Tracey).
