A DIVISION 2nd XI – WEEK TWO
CHIRS Acton was Bradninch's man of the match in a five-wicket win at South Devon.
Acton grabbed five wickets for 32 runs as South Devon were bowled out for 177.
Matt Blackmore made 39, Neil Matthews made 32 and Brian Allen weighed in with 24, which doesn't leave much from the rest.
Acton then got Bradninch up and running on the chase by plundering 53. James Hart (3-41) spun South Devon back into contention and at 124 for five the game was in the balance.
Rob Acton (27no) and Chris Dean (33no) saw Bradninch the rest of the way, helped by 46 extras from some wayward South Devon bowling.
Bottom side Shobrooke Park were taken apart by Plymstock, who administered a 140-run spanking after amassing 262 for six declared.
Morgan Parkinson (57) and veteran Niick Langridge (57) pointed Plymstock in the right direction by totting up 113 for the second wicket. Ollie Mulbery (68) and Ben Heath (25) only added to Shhobrooke's woes.
Other than Mark Goodman (4-64), wickets were in short supply for Shobrooke.
Plymstock didn't seem to have too many problems getting batsmen out as Saeed Ali (4-55) was quickly into his stride. Only Sam Reddick (23) dwelt in the middle for long.
Alex Reddick (30) and David Jollife (31) put on 44 for the seventh wicket to stop Plymstock going home indecently early.
What Ali started was finished off by JackThomas with a four-for-16 haul to run through the tail.
Axminster are down there in the danger zone with Shobrooke after taking a 156-run pounding at Barton.
Barton plundered 207 for nine in their 50 overs, led with some élan by much-travelled football manager Tony Bowker with 42.
Jim Parker made 24 and there were runs all the way down, which was just as well after a minor slump to 12 with Pete Gartrell (25no) and Dale Adderely notching up 53 for the ninth wicket.
Jack Mitcham (4-17) had the best figures of any Axminster bowler.
It was a good day in the Bowker household as son Stuart (3-11) got among the Axminster wickets early on.
Mike Lievesley (5-13) Gartrell (2-11) maintained the stranglehold as the Axmen were skittled out for 51. Stephen Smith-Wild (13) was the only batsman to reach double figures.
Sidmouth ran iinto unbeaten leaders Paiignton at Queens Park and made the table toppers work every inch of the way for a three-wicket win.
Mike Dibble's rich run of form continued with a top score of 90 in Sidmouth's tally of 196 for three. Dibble and Paris Pinnney (26) put on 110 for the second wicket. Only three wickets fell and Liam Bryan (2-54) had two of them.
Pinney (5-44) posed most of the problems for Paignton as they limped to 27 for four in reply.
Josh Fitton (74) and George Yates (38) got Paignton back on course.
With Pinney bowled out, Jason Woodcock (22), took Paignton in sight of the winning post. Tom Ward (16no) and Chris Smith (15no) wrapped the game up with 10 overs to go.
Second-placed Cornwood took the bulk of the points from a high-scoring draw with Plymouth 3 rd XI.
Ben Warren (56) and Dave Tall (50) both made half centuries while Adam Goodliffe (45no) was five runs short in the Corns tally of 249 for five.
Dave Watson (47) and Pasi Mawalage (41) gave Plymouth a start, but Elliot Staddon (3-44) and Craig Harris (3-75) bowled the Corns into the driving seat.
At 189 for seven the hatches were battened down, under orders from captain Al Stewart, and the draw taken at 221 for seven.
