A DIVISION 2nd XI– June 9 2007

ROB Newing's run of form continued with an unbeaten 70 as Budleigh Salterton IIs stayed out in front at the top of the A Division 2 nd XI table with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Abbotskerswell.

   Newing, fresh from taking a century off Sidmouth seven days earlier, played the anchorman role as Budleigh chased down 149 to win in a hurry. Budleigh had more than 26 overs to spare when the runs were knocked off.

   Skipper Ian Taylor helped   Newing put on 62 for the first wicket and the brisk tempo continued with Ben Carter scoring a quick 23,

   Lloyd Murrin signaled his intentions by smashing successive boundaries and was in and out for a bright and breezy 17.

   Mark Hammett and Newing wrapped up a 19-point win with the minimum of fuss to keep Budleigh five points clear of Torquay.

   Torquay II won by six wickets at Bovey Tracey II where the home side were all back in the pavilion for just 99, a target the visitors sailed past for the loss of just four wickets.

   Axminster brushed aside Cornwood on the way to a nine-wicket win.

   Corns' opener Graham Jones top scored for his side with 59, but only Phil Bees with 23 made any other contribution as Cornwood were bowled out for 186.

   Stephen Heale picked up three wickets for Axminster, who were sent on their way by ann unbeaten century from Steve Allsopp.

   Allsopp (104no) and Paul Miller (29no) saw Axminster to victory after Pete Hayball went for 36.

    Seaton's overseas player Kim Manalos clearly enjoyed having the sun on his back as he plundered a majestic 169 in his side's 280 for six declared against Shobrooke Park.

   Neil Anning picked up four of the wickets for Shobrooke Park who made an excellent fist of the run chase before finally taking the losing draw at 222-8. Graham Darke was unbeaten on 53 for the visitors. Pete Lawson picked up another four-wicket haul for Seaton.
