DIVISION 2nd XI– June 9 2007
ROB
Newing's run of form continued with an unbeaten 70 as
Budleigh Salterton IIs stayed out in front at the top
of the A Division 2 nd XI table with a comfortable seven-wicket
win over Abbotskerswell.
Newing,
fresh from taking a century off Sidmouth seven days
earlier, played the anchorman role as Budleigh chased
down 149 to win in a hurry. Budleigh had more than 26
overs to spare when the runs were knocked off.
Skipper Ian Taylor helped Newing put on 62 for
the first wicket and the brisk tempo continued with
Ben Carter scoring a quick 23,
Lloyd
Murrin signaled his intentions by smashing successive
boundaries and was in and out for a bright and breezy
17.
Mark Hammett and Newing wrapped up a 19-point win with
the minimum of fuss to keep Budleigh five points clear
of Torquay.
Torquay II won by
six wickets at Bovey Tracey II where the home side were
all back in the pavilion for just 99, a target the visitors
sailed past for the loss of just four wickets.
Axminster brushed
aside Cornwood on the way to a nine-wicket win.
Corns' opener Graham Jones top scored for his side with
59, but only Phil Bees with 23 made any other contribution
as Cornwood were bowled out for 186.
Stephen Heale picked up three wickets for Axminster,
who were sent on their way by ann unbeaten century from
Steve Allsopp.
Allsopp (104no) and Paul Miller (29no) saw Axminster
to victory after Pete Hayball went for 36.
Seaton's overseas player Kim Manalos clearly
enjoyed having the sun on his back as he plundered a
majestic 169 in his side's 280 for six declared against
Shobrooke Park.
Neil Anning picked up four of the wickets for Shobrooke
Park who made an excellent fist of the run chase before
finally taking the losing draw at 222-8. Graham Darke
was unbeaten on 53 for the visitors. Pete Lawson picked
up another four-wicket haul for Seaton.
