BUDLEIGH Salterton are off the top of the A Division 2 nd XI table, and drop all the way down to third, after they were rained off against Shobrooke Park.

The new leaders are Torquay, who made it five wins on the trot with a six-wicket victory over second-bottom Cornwood.

James Horgan (79) and Ben Warren (65) helped Cornwood to a respectable 212 for seven. There were   three wickets for Mickey Wilkinson and two for Jonathan Rice for Torquay, who replied with a confident run chase that saw them lose just four wickets, two of which fell to Steve Tall (2-38).

The home side's run chase was led by Matt Thompson and Liam Rice who both scored 62.

Axminster moved past Budleigh into second place after a superb game of   cricket at Bicton College which ended in a 42-run win over Sidmouth 3 rd XI.

Axminster had runs down the card in their 266 or six declared at the end of the 42nd over. Skipper Paul Miller led the way with 88, Dave Hayball hit 58 and there were also runs from Tristan Wakeley (36), Andy Guppy (24) and David Murnane (20).

Sidmouth seamer Alex Beighton made an early break through - he bagged three for 52 – and seamer George Lister took   three for 56.

Tom Overthrow (78) and Mike Dibble (57) made the biggest contributions towards the Sidmouth total of 224.

The game turned on a hat-trick performed by Axminster off-spinner Steve Heal on his way to figures of four for 44.

There was an impressive cameo spell of bowling from 13 year old Ady Thompson who came on towards the end of the hosts innings and claimed two wickets for a single run from the eight balls he sent down.

Bovey Tracey stay bottom after they lost to Abbotskerswell by 22 runs.

Abbots had Martin Douglas (41), Gary Day (36) and Sean Green (34) to thank for a closing total of 161.

John Cadoux-Hudson claimed four for 42 and Richard Layfield three for 50 for Bovey Tracey who were then bowled out for 139 despite a fine unbeaten 61 from Matt Pascoe.

Youngster Dan Green chipped in with 26 but was the bowling of his namesake that dominated the post-tea session as Sean Green bagged a five for 48 with his seamers.

Abbots' Richard Acton was again amongst the wickets, He took three for 37.
