YOU won't hear many complaints about the weekend wash out from the Brixham camp after they stole a march on everyone else in the B Division with a 97-run win at Bideford.
For, with no one else in the division getting a game in, Brixham shot 21 points clear of the chasing clubs at the top of the table.
Brixham were all out for 173 in the 42nd over of the game, which was a remarkable turnaround in fortunes after they had been 17 for five then 51 for seven.
Bideford seamer Chris Luxton clearly found the conditions to his liking as he had five of the seven wickets that had fallen and went on to finish with figures of seven for 33.
The rot stopped with Matt Caunter and Joe Hydge, whose stand of 43 was a turning point for Brixham.
Caunter, who made 56 off 41 balls with seven sixes and a four, was finally winkled out by Luxton at 94 for eight.
Hyde had got his head down and proceeded to wring a few more runs out of the tail, firstly with Aqeel Ahmed then last man Gary Spencer.
Aqeel has never had any pretentions as a batter in the Devon League – he takes wickets and lots of them – but made 27 in a stand of 46 with Hyde to get the score up to 140 for nine.
Spencer falls into the same category as Aqeel where batting is concerned, but hung around to make 14 as he and Hyde (78) added another 33 at the end.
Brixham had done more than enough as Bideford capitulated to 76 all out inside 27 overs.
Hyde and Mark Orchard reduced Bideford to 36 for seven almost on their own – Hyde taking three wickets and Orchard three as well as running out Andre Webbe.
Luxton (25no) and Luke Kerr (22) resisted for a while, but once Spencer trapped Kerr it was downhill all the way for Bideford as Aqeel and Spencer finished them off.
