B
DIVISION 2nd XI – JUNE 9, 2007
B
DIVISION leaders Bradninch had a shock at Chudleigh
where they lost for the first time this season.
Chudleigh got off to a solid
start to reach 71 before Nick Halse (51) became the
first casualty. Captain Lewis Howard (28) followed
16 runs later before Neil Argyle (44no) guided Chudleigh
to a final total of 181 for six with assistance from
Jason Barnes (16) and Ben Ripley (17no).
Dave Williams (3-29) soon had Bradninch struggling then
Ripley (4-12) ripped through the remaining batsmen.
Only Chris Dean (35) showed any resistance as Bradninch
were bowled out for 96 and lost by 85 runs.
Bradninch remain top of the table by a whisker as Hatheleigh
went level with them on points after thrashing Braunton
by 108 runs. An extra game won keeps Bradninch top.
George Bryant (85) and skipper Ross Cherrington (51)
helped Hatherleigh to a healthy 237 for five, Ed Holmes
claimed three wickets for Braunton, who were then bowled
out for 129, Dave Cresswell top scored with 32. Kev
Downes took five for 34 for Hatherleigh who travel
on Saturday to third-placed Plymouth Civil Service.
Basement side Braunton have
now lost all six of their first third of the campaign
and a drop to the C Division looms unless things improve
in a hurry.
Clyst St George might have been depleted by first team
calls when they met Alphington, but a century from Paul
Laverick more than made up for any holes in the side.
Laverick helped himself to an unbeaten 103 as Clyst
chased 256 to win and got them with three wickets in
hand. It was Laverick's first league ton since he made
100 not out against Kingskerswell way back in 1996!
Laverick was backed up by Sean Middleton with 66 and
skipper Oz Besley, who made a useful 39.
Earlier, Andy Mills (63), Richard Coe (47no) and Trevor
Newbury (36) had been among the runs for the Alphas.
Barntstaple dropped behind Clyst St George and into
the bottom two in the B Division 2 nd XI competition
following a nail-biting draw with Tavistock at the Ring.
Three more runs would have given Barum victory having
been set 229 to win. Darren Chapple top scored for Tavvy
with 48. Rob Holm was unbeaten on 76 in Barnstaple's
reply for 226 for six.
Barnstaple will be
looking to claw back lost ground this Saturday when
they entertain Clyst St George at Raleigh Meadow.
Brixham remain stuck
in no-man's land just above the relegation zone after
they went down by seven wickets to third-placed Plymouth
Civil Service.
Wes Fowler made a best of 49 for Brixham in their total
of 202 for six. He shared in two sizeable stands of
59 with Chris Johnson (37) and 66 with Sam Thomas (34),
Chris Sleep hit 27 not out at the end.
Andy Hawker claimed the bowling honours for Civil with
his four for 46.
Civil didn't hang about knocking off the runs
as they were home and dry inside 35 overs.
Jan Walaskowski (41) and Paul Maloney (56) gave Civil
a 67-run start then Stuart Dent (77no) and Maloney posted
another 102 for the second wicket to kill the game as
a contest.
