BRADNINCH 2 nd XI made a great start to life in the B Division with a seven-wicket win at Hatherleigh.

Bradninch veteran Andy Nicholls had a fine all-round game. He picked up three wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 192, Richard Tidball top scored with 51.

After Lucas Fencl hit 74 and skipper Nat Davey 32, Nicholls chipped in with 39 to give Bradninch their winning start.

It's early days yet but a few more results like this and Bradninch will start thinking they could be on course for a third successive promotion.

Clyst St George put in a determined fightback against Brixham , but it wasn't enough to stave off a 25-run defeat.

The situation looked bleak for St George after they slumped to 59 for six in reply to Brixham's 224 for nine, Geoff Newman 4-59) and Craig Eves (2-40) doing much of the damage.

Mark Couch led the Clyst fightback with 86, which included four sixes and 12 fours, and with Steve Middleton (20), Oz Besley (19) and Nigel Hardy (23no) got the villagers back in the game.

Lee Upham (4-35) got Couch out caught and bowled and despite Hardy's efforts Clyst were all out for 199 with four overs to go.

Brixham's total was anchored by a stand of 119 for the third wicket by former Kingskerswell pair Ken Gormley and Wes Fowler, who made 49 and 74 respectively to push the score up to 141 for three.

Besley (4-19) and Hardy (3-70) bowled Clyst back into contention, but failing to break a last-wicket stand of 32 between Chris Sleep (48no) and Newman (2no) came back to haunt them later in the game

Chudleigh couldn't get through Tavistock's tail-enders at Kate Brook and had to settle for a draw.

Nick Halse hit 85 for Chudleigh – he and Ed Hunt (35) put on 101 for the second wicket, and with Neil Argyle making 20 they totalled 179 for seven. Will Downham (4-62) was the pick of Tavvy's bowlers.

Veteran Shaun Taylor, the former Paignton, South Devon and Kingsbridge seamer making a comeback with Chudleigh this season, took four for 35 to put Tavvy under the cosh.

Two wickets in the last over proved beyond Lewis Howard as Tavvy clung on at 147 for nine.

Exeter St James ' loss is definitely Alphington's gain as defectors Simon Cake and Matt Barnes featured in the drawn game with Barnstaple and Pilton.

Chasing 224 to win, Cake made 77 and Barnes 43 in an Alphington reply of 215 for nine.

Skipper Paul Maloney led from the front with an unbeaten 113 to help Plymouth Civil Service rattle up 295 for five at Braunton . Alex Carr claimed four for 16 as Braunton were skittled out for 179 and lost by 116 runs.
