C DIVISION 2 nd XI – WEEK FIVE

IPPLEPEN'S hopes of gaining ground on the leading pack of clubs in the C Division came to nothing as front-runners Braunton beat them by four wickets.

Lee Curtis made 34 and Roger Doxat-Pratt hit 28 in a modest Pens' total of 175 for nine.

Pens' golden oldie Bill Heath nagged away to take three for 30 when Braunton batted, but former North Devon batsman Ross Burbidge hit an undefeated 121 to wrap up the win. Burbidge was a member of the North Devon 1st XI team who won the Premier Division in 2007. What he s doing in the C Division 2nd XI is anyone's guess?

Kingsbridge racked up an impressive 257 for six against Thorverton – yet still managed to lose by five wickets.

Mark Stacey (72), Phil O'Neill (78) and James Ellis (35no) led the Kingsbridge batting effort. Ryan Doye clattered a century as Thorverton knocked off the runs.

Dave Higgins scored a ton for Stoke Gabriel in their drawn game with near neighbours Dartington & Totnes.

Higgins hit 110 not out and Matt Taylor was unbeaten on 68 in a 46-over total of 226 for two. The batters who missed out were Andy Bertram and Paul Collings, who made a dozen each.

Dartington & Totnes were 20 for three in reply when Tom Petherick went in and he shored up the middle order with 62. Dan Goord made a valuable 23 late in the day to make certain if a draw at 173 for eight.
