C
DIVISION
MIKE
Cottam returned after almost two years out due to shoulder
problems to help Seaton to a three-wicket win over Clyst
Hydon in the C Division' match of they day.
Former Devon all-rounder
Cottam has steered clear of the cricket field while
waiting for operations on his troublesome shoulders.
Now he is back, hopefully for good, to help Seaton get
out of the C Division at the first attempt.
Although Clyst lost they remain top, but Seaton are
just eight points behind them now.
Seaton skipper Mike Wheeler called correctly and put
the Villagers in and, apart from two fine knocks from
Kevin Sercombe (59no) and Clint Lewis (37), nobody else
stuck around too long and the innings closed on 152-7.
Ben Copp, Peter Lawson and Cottam each took a couple
of wickets.
Seaton were in a spot of bother at 22 for four, then
Dave Cottam (54) and Matt Hever (42) added a century
partnership for the fifth wicket and it was left to
Mike Cottam to hit an unbeaten 16 to see the side home.
Said Wheeler “ It's another case of us doing a decent
all round job on a side who are going to be much of
a much ness with many others in this section.
We are in the mix and need to show good levels of consistency
from here on in.”
Opposite number Martin Dudley said he was starting to
get concerned about Clyst's failings away from home:
two defeats and a draw.
“ It's about time we started turning up for away matches,
we seem to be a different side at home and our poor
record on the road needs addressing, and quickly.
“We battled back well and it underlines how tight this
section is that we can have too poor results and still
be top.”
IVYBRIDGE
didn't get as far as the end of their innings in the
South Hams derby clash with Kingsbridge at Erme Playing
Fields.
Ivybridge were 158 for seven with five of their 46 overs
to go when the game was called off due to bad weather.
Main run scorers were Gareth
Andrews (49) and Derek Soloman (30), who shared
in a stand of 52. Kelvin Trent made 26.
Neal Peach, Ashley Treeby and Adam Browning took two
wickets each for Kingsbridge.
FENITON
were hit by the weather when the heavens opened to wash
out their game at Babbacombe where they had already
accounted for two of the home side who were on 70-2
after 22.3 overs of a 30 over a side contest.
Jonathan Pyle claimed
both wickets to fall.
Fenny skipper Mark Kingdom said: “It's frustrating here
we are saying the season is one third done and we hardly
seem to have had much cricket.
“We need some sunshine and quickly and then it might
begin to feel like a cricket season.”
KILMINGTON
bounced back from the previous week's defeat by Feniton
to see off visiting Chagford by four wickets.
Ben Noble and Tristan Wakeley
both took four wickets as the bottom-of-the-table visitors
were bowled out for 173. Colin Mortimore made 84 with
11 fours and a six and Prakash Joshi helped himself
to 46.
After early runs from Andrew Parr (24), Wakeley top
scored with 57 as he and skipper Ian Gooding (30) took
their side to victory with a stand of 72.
Kilmington had a minor wobble at the end, prompted by
Joshi (3-56) and Jeremy Christophers (3-44) but not
enough of one to deflect them.
Skipper Ian Gooding said: “That was just about the perfect
response. We talked before the match of the need to
put the previous weeks defeat behind us and we did just
that.
“I thought Ben (Noble) did ever so well as he carried
the added burden of knowing we were without his regular
strike partner Maurice Bevis, but Tristan (Wakeley)
stepped in and did a great job in support.”
TIVERTON
& Bickleigh found batting conditions tough going
at Stoke Gabriel where they battled to 124-9 with Jeff
Robinson and Scott Hudson sharing the top score, both
hitting 24.
Adam Castle and Jamie Day
had four wickets each for Stoke.
Stoke cantered to a nine-wicket win inside 30 overs
on the back of an 86-run stand for the first wicket
between Steve Tolley (68no) and Mark Newman (23).
When Newman got out, Robert Baker (21no) finished the
chase.
