
NEIL Elliott hit a vital knock and took a vital wicket to help Stoke Gabriel towards a 39-run win over Ivybridge.
Gareth Stuckey (2-21) and Paul Abraham posed problems for Stoke's early batsman with the swinging ball and at the 14-over mark they were only 29 for one.
Malcolm Coleman (27) played a patient innings that helped set up the onslaught later in the innings. Jeff Baker scored 17 important runs in support of Coleman.
Elliott (68), in only his second outing of the season, came to the wicket with Stoke on 64 for three. He went on to remind the Stoke team of his wide range of shots as he put the Ivybridge bowling to the sword.
Skipper Clive Burnell (19) put on valuable 69 with Elliott for the fifth wicket.
In the last five overs of the Stoke innings 44 runs were scored to get Stoke up to a good total of 186 for six.
Ivybridge were soon in trouble during their innings as Mike Perkin (4-30) and Ed Gillin (2-32) went through the early batting. After 14 overs they had collapsed to 52 for seven.
Ivybridge started to fight back with Nick Thomas (41) smashing seven fours and two sixes. He was supported by Abraham (22no) who helped get the score up to 100 for eight,
Al Warden chipped in with 15 not out and Stuckey scored a quick 10. Just as it looked like Ivybridge were getting back into the game, Sam Hill took the ninth wicket and it was left to Elliott to bag the last.
Former Thorverton and Exeter quick bowler Mike Record was Plymstock's star man as the C Division leaders crushed bottom club Kentisbeare by 67 runs.
Record hit a top score of 44 in Plymstock's all-out score of 150, then took four for 19 as Kents were skittled out for 83.
