C
DIVISION
CLYST
Hydon stormed to the top of the C Division by winning
the only game to go the distance.
Chagford
were the opposition and must have wished they had stayed
at home after slumping to their third defeat on the
bounce.
Chagford were rolled over for 152 at the end of an innings
that never got out of second gear for long.
When skipper Colin Mortimore
got out for 19, three wickets fell for just two runs
added to leave Chagford 31 for three.
Without a battling 31 down the order from Duncan Christophers,
which rescued Chagford from 88 for six, the situation
could have been worse. Andy Potter (16) and Dean Topping
(15) chipped in.
Kevin Sercombe (3-31) and Mark Johnson (3-43) were the
leading wicket takers for Clyst Hydon. Danesh Nandana
(2-32) did his bit as well.
Ian Sutton (79) and Steve Doyle (35) made an 84-run
hole in the chase. Sutton was out two runs short of
victory, having seen Clyst to the brink of victory in
tandem with Clint Lewis (25no).
TIVERTON
& Bickleigh had the compensation of maximum batting
points from their rain-ruined trip to Kilmington.
Jeff Robinson top scored for T&B with 52 not out
and featured in a stand of 81 for the third wicket with
Scott Hudson (46). In a total of 215 for three.
Tim Read weighed in with 46 and Andy Blake made 36.
The wickets were shared around with Hal Cook, Ben Noble
and Tristan Wakely claiming one each.
Maurice Beviss bowled 10 overs miserly for 16 runs without
taking a wicket.
Kilmington collected one more point than they would
have done for staying at home, which irritated skipper
Ian Gooding. He fancied knocking off the runs, even
though the target was probably more than it should have
been.
“On what was a flat wicket that was a score I'd have
fancied us to chase successfully,” said Gooding.
On the down side I felt we gave them runs with some
sloppy deliveries that they tucked away very well.
“We also didn't help ourselves with four dropped catches
and overall we didn't bowl as well as we had done the
previous week.”
