C
DIVISION
IVYBRIDGE
won the toss against Plymouth
and for the first few overs it seemed to be the perfect
decision.
The tracks was playing low and slow, and some accurate
swing bowling by Warden and Stuckey saw Plymouth at
5 for 2 with both Joe Barlow and Jimmy Haffenden back
in the pavilion without bothering the scorers.
Both
Andy Sewell and Jon Lawrence continued to struggle to
find runs against the tight bowling and some very sharp
fielding.
Though loose balls were punished (Lawrence hitting one
one bounce into the fence by the main road, and Sewell
putting one almost to Princess Yachts), problem was
there were few loose balls.
Plymouth stuck at it though and had recovered to 121-5
by the time Andy fell.
A typically flamboyant 26 from Venu Kondamudi and a
quick fire 26 from Al Stewart took the final score to
a quite respectable 194-9 It was obvious that if the
track continue to play low then all the Plymouth bowlers
needed to do was bowl straight and Ivybridge were going
to struggle to get the total.
Despite getting of to a steady start (85-2) Ivybridge
were struggling just the same as Plymouth to find runs.
Then Al Stewart turned to the spin twins and the game
changed.
Depspite Jimmy Haffenden (7-2-24-1) having no ball problems
with his trailing foot he bowled very tightly and Nigel
Hughes (8-1-21-3) showed exactly what can happen if
you bowl straight. At 109-5 the game had moved Plymouth's
way.
Some impressive tap and run from Greenhouse & Wakeham
continued to make things interesting until Venu ended
it with a sharp stop and off balance throw which hit
the one stump he had to aim at leaving Greenhouse stuck
half way down the track.
From that point it was just a matter of time and the
Bridgers moved from 138-6 to 141 all out as Reese Small
show how you bowl at tail enders - straight and full
- ending with 3 for 24 off 9.1 overs.
Stoke Gabriel
had too
much in almost every department for Kingsbridge
as they
coasted to a 146-run win at the Butts to move out of
the C Division basement.
Chris Samargis (127) and Jeff Baker (71) were the leading
scorers in a Stoke total of 264 for five. Adam Banaddio
then claimed five for 31 as Kingsbridge were bundled
out for 118.
Kentisbeare
went down
at Whitchurch ,
the home side posted a score of 212-7 and then, despite
Harry Howe's fine unbeaten 54 Kentisbeare were all out
for 187.
Heathcoat
drew with Yelverton
as their 152-8, which included a fine half century from
Dave Saunders came in reply to the visitors 180-7, Kevin
Johnson claiming 3-13.
