PLYMOUTH
Civil Service have been given the green light to carry
on playing at Beacon Down for one more summer at least.
Civil haven't been sure the ground will be
available to them this summer due to changes in the
way the pitches at the Civil Service club are run.
Co-tenants Plymouth CS RFC moved out last summer because
of the same issues.
Club officers have been negotiating with the Civil Service
Sports Council and Plymouth City Council since January
to strike a deal that would enable them to play.
Civil Service spokesman Dave Bayliss said the deal was
temporary, but he hoped a permanent one might be around
the corner, if and when the complex is sold off.
“All parties have worked hard to enable a licence to
be signed between the council and the CSSC to enable
this to happen,” said Bayliss.
“PCSCC have a sub-licence with the council to enable
us to use the ground throughout the summer.
“After all the uncertainty over the winter it is great
to be able to move forward in a positive way.
“Hopefully, the sale of the whole site will happen soon
and we will be able to secure our long-term future on
the ground with the new owners.”
Civil's 1st and 2nd XIs will play at Beacon Down this
summer. Sunday, Midweek and 20-20 fixtures will be played
there as well. The 3rd XI will continue to use Buckfastleigh.
