COCKINGTON
and Stoke Gabriel stay top and second at the top of
the C Division after comfortable wins over Kingssbridge
and Babbacombe respectively.
Leaders
Cockington piled out 250 for nine at Kingsbridge, then
bowled the home side out for 129 to win by 121 runs.
Second-placed Stoke Gabriel, who trail the leaders by
five points, did it the other way round at Walls Hill
by bowling Babbacombe out for 134 then knocking off
the runs for the loss of just three wickets.
Shaun Needham's 91 formed the backbone of the Cockington
total at the Butts. Darren Scott featured in a first-wicket
stand of 60 with Needham, of which he made the grand
total of five!
James Fraser (49), Chris Needham (25) and former captain
Graham Furze (26no) all chipped in towards the Cockington
total.
Angus Watson (3-49) was the pick of the Kingsbridge
bowlers.
Kingsbridge couldn't have wished for a worse start to
their reply as opener and captain Steve Gledhill was
out second ball to Chris Needham (2-19).
Bowling Kingsbridge out proved harder than first expected
as Steve Tall (23) and Chris Bowles (19) hung around
using up overs.
The sixth wicket went at 103 and after that it was open
season on the lower order as Furze (2-8) and Scott Colegate
(4-19) bowled Kingsbridge out.
Babbacombe struggled for runs in their game with Stoke
Gabriel the were 17 for one after 10 overs – and
needed some middle order impetus injected by Terry Farkins
(32) to get going.
Farkins towed Paul Sutherland along to make 33 and helped
Rob Bloxham compile 32.
Adam Castle (2-21) made inroads into the Babbacombe
batting before he got injured and couldn't continue.
Alex Hill stepped into the breech and took four for
16.
Stoke didn't find runs much easier to come by at first
as Farkins (3-17) limited them to 46 for three as the
halfway stage approached.
Steve Tolley was still there though and batted through
to make 94 not out in a stand of 89 with Neil Robinson
(21no) that won the game with seven overs to spare.
Dawlish won for the first time this season when they
eased to a five-wicket win over visiting Feniton.
Feniton's early order batsmen did a vanishing act as
Paul Parsons (3-33) and Tim O'Connell (3-18) reduced
them to 47 for sixth.
Former Sidmouth captain Dave Carnall has seen a few
slumps in his time and led the Feniton fightback with
a dogged 57.
Carnall and Stuart Bright (23) added 47th for the seventh
wicket and a stand of 63 between Carnall and Mason Abbott
(24) helped Feniton to 172 for nine.
Dawlish made a wobbly start – they were 38 for
three having been unsettled by Russ Witton (2-35) and
Jon Pyle (2-56) – but Karl Blackburn was still
there and batted through to ensure that much-needed
win.
Chris Partidge shored up one end for 27 in a stand of
77 with Blackburn that changed the game. James Day (28)
took D&T most of the way there with Blackburn to
seal victory with almost six overs to spare.
Blackburn finished undefeated on 75 having hit three
fours and four sixes.
Kilmington were undone by Ivybridge's overseas player
Mike Anderson as they slipped to a seven wicket defeat
at the Erme Playing Fields.
Anderson collected five wickets for 18 runs as Kilmington
were bowled out for 100.
Openers Dave Cook (30) and Rory Helliar (22), who both
fell to Jamie Bullock (2-21), were the only run getters
of any note. Karl Prescott (3-24) finished Kilmington
off.
Ivybridge didn't start too well as Anderson was caught
behind in the first over. Derek Soloman (29) and Kevin
Jacobs got the first 54 runs towards the target out
of the way, Soloman and Prescott (17no) nibbled another
32 off the target, leaving Kelvin Trent to belt a few
at the end to wrap up victory.
Kilmington stay three off the bottom of the table and
have a basement battle with Dawlish, who are three points
behind them, to look forward to this Saturday.
Ivybridge moved up from fifth to fourth in the rankings
on the strength of their victory, overtaking Clyst Hydon,
who were rained off against Heathcoat.
Promotion chasing Heathcoat won't have been too disappointed
at that turn of events as they were defending a modest
123 all out at Yarde Lane.
Chris Edwards (3-17), Kevin Sercombe (3-31) and Sri
Lankan new boy Dhanuja Nandana (3-24) were the bowlers
who did the damage for Clyst. Matt Parkes (24) staved
off total collapse for Heathcoat, who had been 59 for
five at one stage.
Clyst Hydon were 28 for two off nine overs when rain
forced the players off the field.
