SATURDAY, JULY 7

BRIAN Cann hit a century, and Adrian Pullin wasn't far away from another one, as Feniton took Cockington's bowling to task.

The C Division leaders have been terrorising sides almost all season, but their attack as made to look mundane as Cann took them for 101 and Pullin made 85 in a total of 262 for five.

Mason Abbott then had bowling figures of five for 18 as the Torquay side were held to 176 for seven in reply and had to settle for a rare draw.

Feniton vice captain Dave Haysom said: “We batted well and then had a real go at knocking them over.

“It wasn't to be but what was pleasing was to see all areas of the side on top of their game.

“Playing like this should see us continue to progress up the table. We are very aware that we remain in some danger at the wrong end of the table. If we repeat this form, in what remains of the campaign, we'll have no problems”

One off day hasn't cost Cockington the leadership, but is has allowed the chasing pack to gain some ground on them.

Stoke Gabriel are closer by a point – they drew at Ivybridge – and Heathcoat made up 11 points on the leaders as they cruised to a six-wicket win away to relegation worriers Kilmington.

Kilmington's 121 all out – Ian Gooding making 30 – always looked a little on the low side to worry Heathcoat.

Tim Hill led the bowling effort for Heathcoat with four for 18, aided and abetted by South African Sean Dick (3-32) and Jack Menheniott (2-21).

Dick's 38 not out, supported by Jack Smith's 34, took Heathcoat to a comfortable win, despite the odd distraction from Maurice Beviss (3-36).

Clyst Hydon skipper Martin Dudley was down in the dumps after his side were embarrassing 40-run losers away to Babbacombe.

Nothing is every guaranteed in sport but, after bowling Babbacombe out for 114 the odds seemed stacked in Clyst Hydon's favour.

Paul Sutherland (23) was the only one of the home side's early batters to hang around as they dipped to 45 for four then 72 for six. Danesh Nandana (3-31) and Kevin Sercombe (2-14) were posing the problems at that stage.

Rob Bloxham (16) and Tim Goodwin scored valuable runs as Babbacombe scraped together 114 all out – and just how valuable was proved when Clyst Hydon slumped to 16 for four in response.

Dudley (15) and Clint Lewis (23) were the only batters to make it into double figures as Terry Farkins (3-25), Paul Bates (2-14) and Goodwin (3-22) dismissed Clyst Hydon for 74.

Dawlish & Teignmouth kept the drop zone at arm's length with a 34-run win over Kingsbridge that was achieved with just three balls to go.

D&T's batting is starting to fire at long last – as a total of 236 all out more than proved.

James Day led the way at first with 59, Simon Hosgood (26) and Richard Fisher (40) chipped in then skipper Andy Lockyer cut loose with a quickfire 79.

Lockyer was involved in a stand of 47 with Paul Parsons, who was very much the junior partner as he only made six!

Kingsbridge needed a good start so being 10 for three after two overs wasn't what skipper Simon Gledhill had in mind at all.

Tom O'Connell (4-55) did the early damage, but Kingsbridge saw him off and started to make inroads into the total through Andy Wilmott (68), Tony Treeby (25) and Richard Shorland (40).

The chase slowed after Wilmott got out and both sides were resigned to a draw by the time Day (3-43) trotted in to bowl the last over.

Two wickets in three balls knocked over the Kingsbridge tail and gave D&T only their second win of the season.

A late burst of wicket-taking wasn't enough to give Ivybridge victory in the South Hams derby with Stoke Gabriel.

Andy Coker hit a top score of 50 as Ivybridge posted 189 for nine – a target Stoke Gabriel showed little interest in after losing Robert Baker (420 and Neil Robinson (26).

With Karl Prescott taking three for 41, and Mike Anderson two for 25, the game appeared to be meandering to a draw. Then four wickets fell for just nine runs added and it was game on again

Two wickets in the 42nd over for Jamie Bullock (2-38) brought Stoke's last man Nathan Way in to join Tom Armstrong and they managed to block out for a draw at 169 for nine, to the frustration of Bullock and Kelvin Trent.

Earlier, Cocker shared in two 50-plus stands for Ivybridge, one with Chris Greenhouse (19) and another with Derek Soloman (26).

Armstrong and Nick Sandbrook claimed three wickets each for stoke with Alex Hill bagging a couple.

There's no real change at the top of the table as the for frontrunners are all in the same positions. However, Cockington's lead at the summit was trimmed to four points as they only drew at Kilmington.

Ivybridge are still fourth, but moved five points closer to Stoke Gabriel, who are in second spot.
