D
DIVISION WEST 2nd XI
IPPLEPEN
shot past Dartington & Totnes to the top of the
D Division West table after clocking up a 91-run win
over Plymouth Civil Service.
The new leaders smashed
an imposing 259 for four, thanks largely to ton-up pair
Matt Quartley (124) and Jeff Heath (110). The duo added
193 for the second wicket.
Plymouth Civil Service were bowled out for 168, Trevor
Culpin top scoring with 90, Steve Major claimed three
for 12 whilst Bill Heath, father of Jeff, took two for
39 and Simon Curling claimed two for 31.
Early leaders Dartington & Totnes
were at Roborough
but they couldn't find a win and so slipped a place
to second.
Dartington & Totnes posted a score of 199 for nine,
but Roborough stubbornly refused to buckle and their
reply closed on 144 for eight.
Babbacombe
entertained Kingskerswell
and came out on top by just five runs in a low-scoring
affair.
The home side laboured their way to 155.Rob Redding
(41), Tim Stapleton (23) and Rob Farkins (19) providing
the main contributions.
Farkins took up bowling duties with great effect and
removed half the visitors to leave the reply five runs
short of a win
Farkins with five for 44 had Kerswell in all sorts of
trouble, but the final wicket didn't fall until the
last ball of the game – Redding taking the catch
off Farkins to give Babbacombe victory.
Cockington
were put to the sword
at Plympton by nine wickets, but at least they were
put out of their misery quickly!
Cockington batted first and were quickly all out for
a paltry 45. Roland Scott (10) was the only batsman
to reach double figures. Seven visiting batsmen made
trudged back to the pavilion with nothing at all.
Matt Gregory took four for19 from six overs of left-arm
seam bowling while John Dodds and Sean Mortimer took
a couple of wickets each – Mortimer without conceding
a run!
Plympton lost just Paul Elsey (4) in the reply. Chris
Chapman was unbeaten on eight and Chris Dawe was unbeaten
on 26 at the end of a short chase.
The old adage catches win matches won't have been lost
on Exeter
skipper Jeff Stanyer after the game against Dawlish
& Teignmouth
ended in a draw.
Exeter opener Duncan Fraser set off at a rapid pace,
28 coming in the first two overs, but after he went
for 47 from 33 balls the innings slowed.
Wickets fell until Exeter were 87 for four from 12 overs,
then a stand of 105 between Jon Lee (54) and Tom White
(78) turned things round and Stanyer declared after
42 overs for 256 for eight.
Paul Horne took four for 49 in nine overs for D&T,
who gave away 38 extras.
Dawlish were soon four wickets down and behind the clock.
Although the later middle order revived the innings
through Davies (25), Ward (29) and Barnes (53), the
asking rate kept creeping up.
Dawlish were reached 207 for nine at the close having
survived a scare when their last man was dropped in
the final over.
White capped a fine personal performance with five for
54 from 14 overs.
