D
DIVISION
FORMER
Devon and Exeter seamer Jon Jenkins rolled back the
years to take four for 33 as Chagford started moving
away from the D Division West basement with a 68-run
win over Woodland Fort.
Del Owen
(30) and former Bovey Tracey big hitter Colin Mortimore
(70) were in the runs for Chagford. Paul Ridgers (23)
and Josh Rankin (20) weighed in as well.
Fort skipper Mike Burnett will have been happy enough
with Fort's bowling effort as they dismissed Chagford
for 178 after they had been 101 for one.
Rob Stone (3-47), James Brown (2-28) and Mark Humphries
(2-0) at the end put the skids under Chagford's lower
order.
Humphries (22) and Matt McKay (37) pointed Fort in the
right direction to start with, then trouble appeared
in the shape of Jon Jenkins.
Jenkins (4-33) hit the stumps four times in succession,
Duncan Christophers picked up two for 33 and with Dave
Endacott and Rankin flushing out the stragglers, Fort
were 109 all out having been 100 for five.
DARTINGTON
& Totnes won for the first time this season when
they saw off Lewdown by five wickets.
Lewdown
were always up against it after slumping to 20 for four
in the face of some accurate bowling from Bertus Loots
(2-30) and Kevin Veale (4-19).
Phil Yeo (46) and Carl Weeks (29) salvaged something
from the wreckage by putting on 84, but when they went
the batting collapsed. Lewdown lost six wickets for
20 runs as they tumbled to 124 all out.
Totnes and Dartington had 55 overs to knock off the
runs and got home with 24 of them unused.
The chase was led by overseas played Tom Williamson
with 37 and Matt Hickey, just back from an assessment
day in the nets with Warwickshire at Edgbaston, who
hit a top score of 37.
CHELSTON
and Whitchurch Wayfarers fought each other to a standstill
in a Torre Valley North thriller than ended in a tie.
Shaun Daymond
(3-37) and Dean Elliot (2-37) did the donkey work with
the ball as Whitchurch bowled Chelston out for 196.
Martin Credicott (83) and Jez Stokes (48) got Whitchurch
down to the final over, bowled by Chelston's acting
captain Howard Carter, needing for to win with seven
wickets intact.
Whitchurch lost two wickets and scored three runs to
finish level pegging with Chelston on 196 for five.
IPPLEPEN
lost for the second week running in the D Division West
when they were five-wicket losers at Hatherleigh.
The Pens'
total of 196 for nine isn't quite as many as it looks
at Bridge Road, where they boundaries are short and
the ball runs to them without too much resistance.
Hatherleigh underlined how short of par Ipplepen were
by knocking off 197 to win with more than 13 overs to
go.
Tom Cooper, only out once for less than 50 this season,
top scored again for the Pens with 55. Cooper and Lee
Curtis (16) put up 68 then Luke Tuckett (23) and Steve
Bowden helped things along with another 49.
Pick of the Hatherleigh bowlers with three for 37 was
Rob Fishley.
Hatherleigh signed South African Darryl Barnes from
Heathcoat during the close season and were mighty glad
they did as he took the to the brink of victory.
Barnes (82) and Simon Gillespie (42) rattled up 145
between them to end the game as a contest.
Ipplepen were relegated along with Lustleigh last season
and the two of them are back together again in the bottom
two slots already.
LUSTLEIGH
made the relatively short trip to Bridestowe to lose
by 122 runs with 16 of their46 overs unused.
Gary Sizmur,
back with Bridestowe after a spell with Whitchurch,
hit a top score of 49 not out for the Moorlanders in
their tally of 185 for nine. Eddy Jones hit 34. Lustleigh
shared the wickets around with Paul Foot (3-27) pipping
Mike Sessions (2-57) and Gerard Starling (2-39) for
the bowling honours.
Lustleigh's batting fell apart at the seams as bothers
Adam (5-14) and Ned Griffiths (3-13) skittled them out
for 63.
