D
DIVISION EAST
TIVERTON
& Bickleigh traveled to leaders Ottery St. Mary
sitting in fourth spot in the D Division East table,
then beat the hosts by a margin of twelve runs
and returned to Mid Devon as the new leaders!
Star of the show was undoubtedly Graham Turner who claimed
the entire second half of the home batting line up just
when Ottery thought they were closing in one another
win themselves.
Turner will also start his next spell with the ball
‘on a hat-trick' after taking the last two Otters wickets
with the final two balls of the days play. He finished
with figures of 5-24 and Scott Hudson was also again
amongst the wickets with his 4-28 as the Ottery innings
was left a dozen runs short of the Tiverton offering
of 159-6 in which Tim Read top scored with a gritty
half century.
Saturday sees Tiverton & Bickleigh travel to Yarcombe
& Stockland looking to strengthen their hold on
the top spot.
Woodbury put Whimple into bat and produced their
best performance with the ball so far this season.
Whimple were reduced to 0 for 2 and
36 for 4, before skipper and opening bat Simon van Grudgings
ground out a hard-working 46 with 4 fours and 1 six.
He struggled to find much support, with only
Sanjay Rajapakse (18) and Mike Searle (15) showing any
signs of building a score. Dominic Hazell (4-45)
and John Patterson (4-25) did most of the damage in
a rain-interrupted first innings, with skipper Martin
Cook taking 2-28, as the visitors were bowled out for
120 in 41.3 overs.
Only four overs of the second innings were bowled,
but there was enough time for Daniel van Grudgings to
dismiss Tim Greenslade for 1, before the captains called
it a day at 5 for 1.
