IN D Division East the rain put paid to any play at Churchinford where Uplyme & Lyme Regis were set to play and also at Yarcombe & Stockland where Cullompton were the scheduled opponents.

There was play at Ottery St. Mary though and what transpired was a draw between the  Otters and visiting Thorverton.

Sam Yaxley hit eight boundaries in his 78 as he and Matt Millward (27) added 90 for the second wicket, helping Thors to a close of 182-6. Then Matt Woodman got amongst the Otters, he had 4-20 and at 27-4 the Otters' reply was in trouble, but Steve Forbes (29) and Sam Tennant (26) came to the rescue and the hosts closed on 141-8.

There was another draw in the game at Whimple where the home side closed on 155-8 chasing the visitors imposing 212-7.

Phil Hope picked up a brace of wickets in the Tiverton score and then runs from Malcolm Paiva (39) and Mark Searle (41), the pair added 67 for the third wicket enabled the home side to make the draw on 155-8.

Honiton were well and truly humbled by Woodbury and that's back-to-back defeats for ambitious Honiton.

Phil Tansley with 4-33, Neil Pulman (3-36) and Rory Weal (2-14) reduced Woodbury to 139 all out - and that really ought to have been achievable given the Honiton batting line up.

Por shots and some accurate Woodbury bowling did for Honiton, who were finally all out for a paltry 60.

Honiton skipper Andrew Lapping declined to say much post match beyond mention of the word “embarrassing”

The pressure is already on the Mountbatten Park men to deliver a positive result in this Saturday's meeting with Yarcombe & Stockland.

In E Divison East Culmstock were another side undone by having to bat first on a “wet one” as they were shot out for just 83, Russell Geach managed the highest of the Villagers' scores, he hit 17 which was bettered by one by “extras”.

Kentisbeare went down at Halberton who chalked up an impressive eight-wicket win and yet again the toss was decisive.

Home skipper Dan Coles called correctly and Kentisbeare were asked to bat and were soon in deep trouble on 28-4 in the face of a fine spell of bowling from Jeremy Turner who took 4-16 and Jon Geary who claimed 3-44.

Helped by 29 from Steve Reed and 25 from Tom Wilkinson, who added 43 for the fifth wicket, and later runs from Andrew Chave (23) and Martin Howe (15), the visiting side managed to limp to 134 finally all out off the last ball of the 40th over.

Kevin Fever (22) and Hugh Sheridan (24) came out of the traps quickly with the reply and then Tom Sambrook (47no) and Jeremy Turner (35no) saw their side to a comfortable win with still 13 overs of the contest remaining.

Halberton skipper Coles said: “ I'd like to commend their skipper Tom Wilkinson, who was really very sporting in, when offered the light by the umpire with us just a dozen runs shy of wining he declined and stayed out there to see the game to it's conclusion, that was sportsmanship of the highest order”

There was no play possible for Chardstock, their E Division East game at Kenn fell to the weather.
