D DIVISION

DARTINGTON & Totnes are the new leaders of the D Division West after overtaking Ipplepen and Cockington on the strength of their 113-run win over Dawlish & Teignmouth .

Pens won as well – Matt Quartley lashed 33 not out in a six-wicket victory over Babbacombe – but missed out on batting and bowling bonus points which allowed D&T to go past them.

Cockington's unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end when Exeter thrashed them by 93 runs.

Cockington put Exeter in and soon had the city side on 69 for five with Naj Chaudhary (23) the only batter to stay long.

A stand of 74 for the sixth wicket between Steve Easterbrook (57) and Phil Kelly revived the innings. Easterbrook, a 14-year-old prospect, hit five fours and sixes.

Small contributions, including 30 extras, helped Exeter reach 193 all out with nine balls left.

Cockington got just the start they didn't want when they lost an opener to the first ball after tea and lost wickets regularly on the way to 100 all out in the 30th over.

Top score was Neil Colegate with 19 - the same total as Exeter's wides. For Exeter, Jonathan Croft took four for 36 in 12 overs, Jahed Ahmed had three for 32 in 10 overs, and Anda Tyali two for seven at the end.

E DIVISION PLATE

CHELSTON were unlucky enough to run into an Ashburton side strengthened by the inclusion of first teamers to make up the numbers and spiralled to a 142-run defeat.

Ashburton had 13 players on the missing list at all levels on Saturday, so when Dunsford cried off against them at first-team level, seconds' captain Steve Harvey was able to cash in.

Ashburton piled on the runs against the ten men of Chelston. First-team releases Dean Topping (45), Chris Pascoe (89) and Ashley Harvey (49) made the most of the occasion.

The return of ex skipper Alan Churchill (27) to the crease from retirement provided some glimpses of his golden years ably assisted by Shaun Kevern (33no) pushing the score to 282 for six after the regulation 40 overs.

Chelston's reply never really got going although Graham Bedford (42) and Kevin Watling (31) made good personal contributions. Skipper Steve Harvey (3-25) nipped out the first three wickets and Kevin Cock (3-28) had a flurry of wickets towards the close.

Chelston, who were 140 for eight at the close, were kept in check by all the Ashes' bowlers. Jerry Crouch (1-15) was particularly effective off his seven overs.
