Bridestowe v Chagford

CHAGFORD'S billing as D Division promotion favourites took a knock when they went down by 20 runs to local rivals Bridestowe.

Paul Wakefield (2-37) and ex-Devon spinner Jeremy Christophers (4-30) appeared to have done the hard bit by holding Bridestowe to 158 for nine.

Bridestowe's batting was patch to say the least as they were seven for three at one stage, recovered to reach 94 without further mishap then lost three wickets without scoring a run!

Phil Hatton made 26 for the Bridestowe with Phil Woods (31no) and Nick Griffiths (23) pushing the score along after the collapse.

Chagford took their lead from Bridestowe as they were 87 for three at one stage – Colin Mortimore (19) and John Coburn (20) their primary run makers – then 101 for seven.

Chris Lavis (5-33) did the initial damage then Eddy Jones (3-12) knocked over the stragglers as Chagford were bowled out for 138 with nine overs to go.

Chelston v Hatherleigh

CHELSTON suffered a setback in their first game of the season when they went down by three wickets to visiting Hatherleigh.

Phil Hunt made 31 and Barry Griffiths 21, but defending a total of 133 all out was always going to be a challenge for Chelston, although they gave it their best shot.

With Howard Carter taking three for 25, Hatherleigh were wobbling badly at 80 for seven.

A skipper's knock of 50 from Sean Forrester got Hatherleigh off the hook.

Lewdown v Lustleigh

LUSTLEIGH made Lewdown work hard for a six-wicket in what should have been a routine cruise to victory.

Lewdown skipper Charlie Hughes certainly knew the right time to come into the attack as he pocketed four wickets for 21 runs to help bowl Lustleigh out for 126.

Lewdown's overseas player – Austro-Kiwi Klemens Cathcart – claimed a couple of wickets, as did Dave Ball.

The best of an unremarkable set of scores by Lustleigh batsmen were those of Steve Wright (20) and Ben Hood (19). Forty-eight extras, of which 26 were wides, helped the Wreylanders' cause.

Lewdown got into difficulties against the spin of Lustleigh captain Gerry Starling (3-28) – Ball (34) among the casualties - and at 56 for four the winning post was a long way off.

The Lewdown nerves were soothed by Mark Jordan (36no) and Carl Weeks (23no) whose stand of 71 won the game with 27 overs to spare.

Totnes & Dartington v Ipplepen

TOTNES & Dartington had the best of the derby clash with Ipplepen, but will have been disappointed to have come away from it with a winning draw and not an outright win.

Newcomer Tom Williamson clattered a top score of 71 as Totnes & Dartington posted a hefty 247 for nine in their 46 overs.

Williamson and Ian Bransdon (28) put on 102 for the fourth wicket and there were useful contributions either side from Bertus Loots (31) and Mike Jarvis (32).

The Pens shared the wicket taking around with Steve Bowden (3-45) and Paul Thomas (3-48) taking three each and Keith Bell a brace

Ipplepen were in trouble almost from the start as they nosedived to 56 for five as Bransdon (4-21) and Williamson (2-33) caused havoc in the early order.

Tom Cooper got his head down to make 48 – he and Simon Tapley (21) put on a valuable 62 – and with Andy Tuckett making 28 not out the Pens hung on to reach 177 for seven.

Whitchurch v Woodland Fort

WHITCHURCH captain Nigel Barriball had every reason to feel frustrated after his side's nine-wicket defeat by newly promoted Woodland Fort.

For Whitchurch's batting went in fits and starts, which won't have pleased the new skipper at all.

Four wickets fell on 76, squandering a bright start Barriball (27) and Joel Heatley (25) had given Whitchurch, but at 153 for five everything looked rosy again. Matt Witcher (21) and Will Power (21) did the repair work, but again it went pear shaped.

The last five wickets went down for just seven runs as Whitchurch were bowled out with two overs to go for 160.

The two Marks – Ashton (3-16) and Draper (2-41) – did the damage with the ball.

Woodland Fort lost opener Luke Dennis for 29 with the score on 75, which was Whitchurch's only success.

Mark Humphries (63no) and Rob Stone (56no) put on 89 unbroken to win the game with 10 overs to spare.
