D
DIVISION EAST
THE
D Division East derby ended in a thrashing for Honiton
at Whimple. Honiton were invited to bat first but were
bundled out for 92 with only Phil Tansley (18), Andy
Canniford (25) and Bradley Groves (15) making contributions.
Dan Van Grudgings bagged 4-46 and Sanjay Rajapakse helped
himself to 3-20 whilst the previous weekend's double
centurion Phil Gillard claimed three wickets for just
one run!
The Whimple reply was completed within the 22 overs
that they had ‘gained' from the visitors' time at the
crease. Skipper Simon Van Grudgings was unbeaten on
29 and Gillard was not out 23 with Malcolm Paiva the
one man out, he made 25.
Honiton skipper Andrew Lapping pulled no punches saying:
“We simply weren't good enough and you're not going
to win too many matches scoring under a hundred runs.
“The little things didn't go for us and when playing
good sides like Whimple you need a the little things
to run for you but that simply didn't happen for us
today.
“But this game has gone now and we must put it behind
us and move on next week, everyone in the camp was in
a positive mood after the game despite the result and
so we'll look to get back to winning ways next week.”
Churchinford were celebrating their first win of the
league season on Saturday night after a thrilling single
run win over Woodbury and it was Wes Hosie whom played
the major all round role as he first scored an unbeaten
30 in his side's 166 all out and then he bagged four
wickets to close with figures of 4-46 as he and Nick
Franco be (3-35) bowled their side to victory with Woodbury's
last man out with his side a run short of a tie.
