THE
D Division West was the worst affected by rain off all
the divisions in the Devon League with just one game
out of five played to a finish.
Chagford
batted for one over against Ipplepen, which was just
enough time to score one run and lose one wicket, that
of opener Del Owen, who was caught at slip.
Leaders Bridestowe were rained off without a ball bowled
away to third-placed Hatherleigh.
The game between Chelston and Dartington & Totnes
was called off on Friday after Torbay Council carried
out repair work on the outfield which made the ground
unsafe to play on.
The work was to fill in damage on the rugby pitch at
the seafront end of the ground.
The basement battle between Whitchurch and Lustleigh
staggered on until shortly after tea when it was rained
off.
Shane Daymond and Dean Elliott had swooped for four
wickets each as Lustleigh were bowled out for 140. Steve
Wright made 31and brother Mike 31 for the bottom-of-the-table
side.
Whitchurch had batted for less than seven overs when
the game was halted. They were 15 for one at the time.
Lewdown played through to a finish against Woodland
Fort and will have been glad they did after registering
a 47-run win.
The Fort must have felt the hard bit was done after
Lewdown were bowled out for 157. But they collapsed
to 29 for five in reply and despite a brave effort led
by Ross Jowett and Luke Dennis had too much to do to
get back in the match.
Lewdown struggled to 47 for two after 17 overs, then
lost Jack Skuse for 27.
Overseas player Klemens Cathcart held the Lewdown middle
order together with a top score of 55 and stayed around
until the eighth wicket went down at 147.
Cathcart was one of Fort spinner Matt Ashton's victims
in an eventual haul of six for 35. Bowling back up came
from skipper Mike Burnett (2-33).
The
fort's reply couldn't have started any worse than it
did as Phil Yeo dismissed the top four cheaply. Fort
were six for three at the end of two overs.
Dennis and Jowett set about rebuilding the innings and
put on 62 before Charlie Hughes bowled Jowett for 27.
Fort were 91 for six and still in the game, but fell
away as three wickets fell in quick succession, two
of them to run outs.
The second run out to dismiss Dennis was unlucky to
say the least as Ashton smashed the ball past the bowler
it hit the umpire and that left Dennis (26) stranded
as Ball ran him out.
Ball then had last man James Brown caught close-in to
leave the Fort 112 all out. Yeo ended with four for
48 and Hughes two for 12.
