D Division East Axminster IIIs enjoyed a five-wicket win
over arch rivals Kilmington, Roger Summer scoring 48 to
lead his side to victory.
Dave Hayball with 4-48, James Herbert (3-53) and a couple
of wickets from Alex Wraight saw Kilmington bowled out
for 105, Skipper Dave Lavender then did his best, he took
four of the five Axminster wickets to fall in the successful
run chase.
There was no play in the game
at Thorverton where Ottery St. Mary were the visitors
and neither was their play at Uplyme & Lyme Regis
where Feniton were the scheduled guests.
There was action at Upottery and the home side made short
work of dispatching Cullompton. The visitors were all
back in the pavilion for a mere 76 thanks to the combined
efforts of Mike Kellow (3-13), Duncan Kennard (3-32),
Dan Kennard (2-11) and Fred Drew (2-2) and then Ian Drew
(35no) and Bruce English (27no) ensured the home side
strolled to a comfortable victory.
Whimple IIs went down to a heavy seven-wicket defeat at
the hands of Tiverton & Bickleigh IIs. Only Steve
Palfrey, (32no) batting at number ten really bothered
the scorers in the Whimple total of 101, one that Tiverton
passed for the loss of just three wickets.
Chris Firth bagged four wickets for Tiverton who cruised
home thanks to the combined efforts of Richard Watson
(36) and Ben Schofield (35no).
Honiton II were in deep trouble at 30-5 and 75-7, against
Woodbury, but recovered to close on 178 thanks to skipper
Bob Hill (45), Steve Jennings (32), Kev Slynn (26) and
young Alex Sanderson (30).
Richard Hill and Andy Brinsford then sent down a fine
opening spell that restricted Woodbury's reply to a stubborn
35-1 after 20 overs and at 61-9 victory seemed balls away
for Honiton.
But a wonderful last-pair partnership took Woodbury to
the brink of a draw but four over from home their last
man fell and Honiton claimed a 19 point win, thanks in
the main to a marvellous “fivefer” from Steve Jennings
who finished with figures of 5-43.
Honiton skipper Bob Hill said: "A good result eventually
but we took our foot off the gas and nearly let Woodbury
back in.
"Too many dropped catches made life difficult for
us.
“Overall though I'm happy. Special thanks to Alex Sanderson,
helping us out at the last minute and his contribution
went a long way to securing the win.”
