YELVETON have one foot in the Plate final after beating Kingskerswell by 24 runs to make it two wins out of two at the top of Group B.

Yelverton only managed to get to 135 thanks to an unbeaten 35 from Rob Bennett, 26 from Adam Nicholas and 17 from Rob Guy. Extras were worth 28 towards.

Antony Waters (3-23) and former Plymouth and Devon spinner Paul Harding (2-20) were the pick of the home bowlers.

The home reply stuttered to a close of 111with Steve Lacey unbeaten on 26 at the close. Paul Mitchell chipped in with 22 and there were 21 extras.

Geoff Brain was the most successful bowler for Yelverton.   He produced wonderful figures of four for five in 6.3 overs. Rob Bennett and Gerraint Heath both claimed a couple of wickets.

ROBROUGH failed to follow up their win over Dunsford in Group A a week earlier as they lost by 20 runs to visiting Ashburton.

The Pascoe brothers, Phil and Chris, played a prominent part in proceedings for Ashburton. Younger Brother Chris hit 44, Phil scored 30 whilst Kevin Nicholls went on to make an excellent 59 as Ashburton scored 206 for six. Martin House (3-35) was Robourough's most effective bowler.

Roborough were all out for 186 in reply with Nick Goodchild (84) and Rob Gaylard (35) the main run scorers.

Asburton's bowlers were largely on top, three wickets for both Tom Durman (3-28) and Dean Topping (3-21) and two for Marcus West (2-24).

SHALDON Optimists were blown away in damp conditions at Exeter Civil Service where the home side needed just 17 overs to have the visitors back in the pavilion preparing to field!

After opener Ritchie Burnett had bagged a couple of wickets Rhyann Carryl and Kris Calderhead came on as a double change to devastating effect.

Carryll took 3-11 and Calderhead bagged five for 12 as Shaldon were all out for just 60.

The Home side lost four wickets in a quickfire run chase, but Burnett and Harry Weld-Forrester made scores in the high teens,, the latter hitting the winning runs.

Civil's Greg Newcombe said: “With the wily old Rhyann (Carryl) and Kris (Calderhead) in such a mood, we were always on top. We played good cricket today - our fielding and bowling was excellent”.

For the losers, skipper James Fulner said:   “If we had managed another 25 runs the game might well have been very different.

“I can't praise my side highly enough for to come out and attack a score of just 60 in the way that they did was exceptional. They fielded and bowled very well.”

The game between Keyham & Buckfastleigh and Dunsford was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
