E DIVISION WEST

BOVEY Tracey closed the gap on leaders Plymouth Civil Service down to four points when they beat the city side by 35 runs.

Civil thought the game was halfway won after skittling Bovey for 152.

Only Tom Partridge (32) and Jonty Woods (20) made any impression with the bat as David Ley (4-28), Nathan Bulley (3-34) and Becky Piddock (2-21) took wickets.

The reply never really got out of first gear, although Nick Read (33) and Venkat Lakky (17) did try to gather momentum in the run chase.

Ollie Thomas (4-22), Andy Bishop (2-10) and Edward Woolcott (2-42) took the wickets for the visitors.

Exeter are two points further back in third place thanks to a quickfire eight-wicket win over Dartington & Totnes.

D&T skipper Miles Sydenham opted to bat first at Bicton, a decision he may have regretted after seeing is side bowled out for 97. Paddy Ussher (4-16) led Exeter's bowling effort.

Phil Hensor dashed off an unbeaten 46 to see Exeter to victory.

Cheslton II were bundled out for just 63 to lose by 79 runs at Paignton III who had batted first and been dismissed for 142 with Kev Watling taking 5-38 in 10 overs.

Simon Robbins (3-47) and Nathan Ford (2-44), accounted for the remainder of the home batsmen.

Ollie Higgs, the 13-year-old son of former 2nd XI captain Alan, top scored for Paignton with 53. Callum Stanley, another teen prospect, made 23.

Only Matt Coombs (15) reached double figures as the Chelston reply ran into trouble against Mike Meech (4-11) and former Chelston player Richard Poustie (3-9). They were all out for 63.

Chelston's James McConnell was hit by a full-toss that crashed into his face just above the right eye and was taken off to hospital to have a nasty cut stitched up.
