Yelverton v Exeter CS

YOUNGSTER Rob Bennett was the star of the show as Yelverton defeated Exeter CS by 58 runs in the E Division Plate.

   Steve West (33), vice-captain Tim Rutherford (27no) and Paul James (23) all made contributions in the Yelverton offering of 169.

   Rehan Carryl and Kris Calderhead both bagged three wickets for Civil Service, who were promptly bowled out for 111.

   Fifteen-year-old Bennett claimed four for 24 to help Civil on their way; Paul Farnham took three for 18,

   Simon Knight top scored with 36 for Civil, Calderhead hit 28 whilst extras accounted for 26.

 

Ashburton v Keyham & Buckfastleigh

KEYHAM & Buckfastleigh won by 30 runs in their derby date at Ashburton with all rounder P J Patel hitting a half-century in his side's 220-8, then taking three wickets as the home reply closed on 190-8.

   Ashburton were up against it from the start as they only had 10 men due to football commitments and fielded mostly with nine after Chris Pascoe split a finger open fielding off his won bowling.

   As well as the Patel 50 there was a similar score from Greg Robinson whilst Jason Degg, newly signed from Yelverton, hit 38 after being dropped on 0. Dean Topping (2-26) took two wickets for Ashbuton while Mark Priddle (3-64) went one better with three.

   When Ashburton batted, Phil Pascoe top scored with 46, Kevin Nicholls hit 37 and George Marshall 34. Paul Manfield took 3-27 for K&B.

 

Dunsford v Roborough

ROBOROUGH won by four wickets at Dunsford with four overs to spare.

   The visitors batted first and posted a total of 171-6. Chirs Fell top scored with 34 and Brian Gaylard hit an unbeaten 27, Ben Deacon was the most successful home bowler, taking 2-28.

   The Dunsford reply was led by acting captain Gavin Davey, who came in at number five and scored 64.

   Davey was in temporary charge of the side as skipper Colin Green was at home resting up ahead of taking part in Sunday's Great West Run round the streets of Exeter.

   Extras was next best on 32 while Martin Sharland chipped in with 20.

 

Shaldon v Kingskerswell

SHALDON captain James Fulner hit a top score of 80 in the two-wicket win over Kingskerswell – then promptly praised team-mate Ra (corr) Mason for making the victotry possible.

   NickWeedon top scored with 82, Paul Mitchell made 46 and skipper Mark Kenyon chipped in with 22 as Kerswell totalled 180 all out

   Neil Johns picked up four wickets with his medium pace, fellow opening bowler Chris Revell bagged 1-25 and Jay Tuffnell took 3-31 for Shaldon.

   The Shaldon reply got off to a slow start – opener Mason stuck around for 15 overs for his nine, then skipper Fulner came in and with Tuffnell set about the run chase, which reachde a successful conclusion with an over to go.

   Fulner's 80 included a dozen fours and two sixes. Tuffnell's support amounted to 32, Lee Elston helped out with 13 and Johns 11.

   "It's great to get off to a winning start," said Fulner. "Ra laid the platform with his watchful innings, it left things nicely set for myself and Jay to have a real go."

   Pick of the Kerswell bowling was veteran spinner Paul Harding with three for 35.
