SATURDAY, JULY 7
EXETER Civil Service are the new leaders in the E Division West after winning by 97 runs away to Keyham & Buckfastleigh.
Yelverton had been top for a while, but surrendered pole position when they could only manage a losing draw away to Ashburton.
Keyham and Buckfastleigh will have been sick of the sight of Civil's Richie Burnett after his contribution to their defeat.
Burnett top scored with 84 in a total of 171 for nine, then came on to bowl and mopped up the hosts' tail to complete a big win for his side.
Keyham & Bucks had no answer to the opening burst of Mike Skidmore and Howard Rose who reduced K&B to 32-5 after 16 overs.
From then on it was a case of damage limitation for the home side. Will Sykes top scored with 21, but the ball was always on top. Skidmore sent down his 11 overs returning figures of four for 11 whilst Rose picked up two for 22 then Burnett came at the death to claim three for four.
Civil skipper Greg Newcombe didn't think his side had enough runs on the board, but praised his bowlers for proving him wrong.
He added; “I said a few games ago that I didn't want to lead from the front as I think its always better to sit in just behind the leaders, if only because of the old adage of everybody wants to knock the top team off its perch.
“Now we have hit the top we will have to learn to live with the added pressure but we are performing consistently with both bat and ball and its all very exciting right now.”
Dunsford were on the receiving end of a 193-run hammering from Kingskerswell, who are starting to look like contenders in the title race after an indifferent run of results earlier in the season.
George Breyley cracked 103 off only 85 balls as Kingskerswell racked up 264 for four declared in 40 overs.
Breyley shared in a second-wicket stand of 180 with West Indian Sergio Fedee (85), out scoring the young St Lucian.
The visitors found wickets hard to come by but Charlie Poustie (2-66) bagged a brace and Gavin Davey claimed the prize scalp of Fedee with a fine leg-stump yorker.
Dunsford's reply never got going as the villagers subsided to 71 all out. Kieron Joy (12) was the only batsman to make double figures as extras top scored with 29.
Leading the way for Kerswell were Antony Waters (5-15) and Paul Harding (2-2) whilst the last two wickets fell to a Jeremy Dymond/David Lear (2-21) combination as the home side picked up maximum points and did so with 29 overs to spare.
Shaldon skipper James Fulner was once more bemoaning his side's batting display after their defeat at the hands of Roborough
New West Indian Kensan Casimir from St Lucia, and skipper Fulner, both claimed three wickets as hosts Roborough stuttered to 130 for seven before a late order rally took them confidently to full batting points and a close of 213-9.
That was far too many for the visitors who were bowled out for 138. Fulner was again his sides top scorer with 30 and Ra Mason hit 28.
A disappointed Fulner said: “We bowled and fielded well enough and at 130-7 I fancy they were in a spot of trouble, but we let them get going again when we had them by the throat.
“Batting wise we were poor and that concerns me because I know we can do much, much better.
“We face the same side again on Saturday and I want us pumped up and in their faces. This is a game I know we can win. I'll not need to motivate the boys for it, that's for sure.”
