F DIVISION

THE big match in the F Division was at Roborough where   something had to give.

Ashburton arrived to put their 100 per cent start to the season on the line and the hosts went into the game with a similar unblemished record.

By close of play it was the Ashburton record that remained intact after the claimed a two -wicket win in what proved to be a thrilling contest.

Danny North top scored with 46 as the home side were restricted to 135 for six. It would surely have been a much better total but for the rain that arrived to cut short the Roborough innings by six overs.

Greg Robinson, recently signed by Ashburton from Keyham & Buckfastleigh, took three for 36.

Ashburton chased down the runs to win with just one over of the contest remaining, Kevin Nicholls top scoring with 44.

KINGSKERSWELL are having talks with their landlords on the parish council after the match against Kenn was washed out.

Matches - senior and junior - are being cancelled on a regular basis as the pitch waterlogs too easily.

"Mark Kenyon and I spent many hours at the ground last week, shifting between 8,000-9,000 litres of water into the adjoining stream," said groundsman Paul Mitchell.

"Broken drains are proving a real problem at the moment and ongoing talks with the parish council will hopefully lead to the problem being rectified in the near future.

"An hour's steady rain causes flooding to the outfield. As a result, no colts practice has taken place for the last three weeks as well as senior matches being cancelled, all of which leads to a lack of much-needed income."

THE mid-Devon derby at Hemyock went the way of visitors Culmstock, who made the short journey home with a maximum 20-point haul.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Culmstock got a great start with Ross Stickland (23) and Simon Kittow giving their side a 74 opening stand.

Then the home side's Derek Hart came on to bowl and the score slipped from 74-0 to 80-five before Russell Geach (31) and Kittow put on 118 for the sixth wicket.

Late order runs came in the shape of a superb half-century from Spencer Popham, but the star of the batting show was Kittow who was still there at the close of the innings having scored his maiden century, finishing on 100 not out leading in a total of 216 for eight. Hart finished with 4-45.

Steve Jennings (26), Hart (20) and John Hurley (20) then made the larger contributions but the Culmstock bowlers, Alex Brooks (3-28), Adam Gingell (3-20) and Ross Stickland (2-41) took their side to a 52-run win.
