G
DIVISION
SHALDON
captain James Fulner stroked a magnificent 131, whilst
Pete Elver hit an unbeaten 85, as Shaldon posted an
imposing 264 for eight at Chardstock.
Jay Tufnell then claimed five for 21, but the
visiting side couldn't finish the hosts off.
Phil Strawbridge made 44 early on and tail-end charlies
Rob Blackwell and Justin Mariner held out for
the final four overs to close on 158 for nine.
It was the first game Chardstock hadn't lost this season.
Skipper Fenton Day said: “ That's so much better and
whilst I'd have to say there remains bags of room for
further improvement we have got rid of the unwanted
losing tag and can now look to take this sort of performance
into the coming matches.”
Topsham St. James looked
on course to claim a victory at home to Newton St Cyres
but with Koushika Sunkara (42) and Alan Hayes (37no)
already having put on 72 runs and seemingly strolling
to victory with the total on 102-2, the rains arrived
and washed out any chance of finishing the game.
Earlier Sunkara (3-32) had helped reduce the visitors
to a closing score of 142-6 despite a fine unbeaten
50 from Jake Clarkson and 36 from Hal Branford.
First met second in east Devon derby at Upottery and
as a result the G Division leadership changed hands
in what was a low-scoring contest.
John Rich (56) and Beno Hanaman (21) top scored
in the Yarcombe & Stockland offering of 143, three
wickets falling to Mark Joyce, two each going to Nigel
Wyatt, Stewart Drew and Mark Tucker but then the home
side's top order simply did not get going and the side
were bowled out for 133 with Tucker (45) and Joyce (20)
providing the biggest contributions to go with their
earlier bowling efforts.
