Trescothick's benefit season tour is stopping off in
Honiton for a six-a-side tournament next month.
The Somerset and former England batsman (pictured)
has been invited to Mountbatten Park for an unusual
day of action.
Instead of watching the Somerset stars from a distance,
cricket nuts will be able to play with them.
The format of the day is a six-team competition with
each side comprising a Somerset player and five players
from teams put together by local sponsors and companies.
“We are offering local businesses the opportunity of
not only supporting Honiton CC and cricket in the area,
but the rare chance to play with an England and Somerset
legend,” said club chairman Kim Slater.
“Marcus has put in some memorable and great performances
for both England and Somerset and this event offers
a chance for keen cricket enthusiasts to play with Marcus
and his talented team mates.
“For those not fortunate enough to play, this is an
opportunity to see top class players in action.”
Admission is free and there will be opportunities to
win some great draw prizes.
Match day is Monday, May 19 and start time is 10.30am.
The final should take place around 5pm.
Past-and-present Somerset stars Peter Bowler, Rob Turner,
Keith Parsons, Mike Burns and Richard Johnson have all
taken part in similar tournaments at Honiton in the
past.
Somerset County Sports, led by popular ex-Somerset wicket
keeper and captain Burns, are the defending champions
in the tournament series. SBS will running a shop at
the event with offers and special discounts on equipment
and cricket merchandise for visitors.
The event has been made possible by the generosity of
main sponsors SWH Build and many local businesses.
