YELVETON
booked their place in the final of the E Division Plate
with an astonishing win over Shaldon in the last of their
pool games.
After being
bowled out for just 82 by Shaldon, Rob Guy's side promptly
shot the visitors out for 58 to win by 24 runs in a game
that saw 20 wickets fall for just 140 runs!
Gul Khan hit 31 and extras added another 17 in Yelverton's
total of 85. South Afridcan Lee Elston claimed four wickets
(4-13) and Chris Rebell picked up a couple for Shaldon
When Shaldon batted, Daniel Hardwidge top scored with
a battling 16 while skipper James Fulner and Adam Dowsing
both hit 15.
Yelverton's Ben Spear took three for 11 with his off-spin
- and Geoff Brain also picked up three wickets.
Stumper Guy also got in the
wicket-taking act, he took his keeping pads off during
the interval and took two for 10.
Said Guy: “I was thrilled by our application. We had a
couple of late cry offs and the lads who came in did us
proud.
“It was a great team effort, especially given our low
score, but we attacked it from the off and got our just
rewards.”
Fulner was left to search for consolation where he could
find it, which wasn't easy.
“A huge plus is that we knocked over a decent batting
side for less than a hundred,” said Fulner.
“None of us can bat in our side - just now - but we can
work on that side of the game.”
Waiting for Yelverton in the final, which will be played
in early September after the league season finishes, are
Group A winners Roborough, who had too much all round
for Keyham & Buckfastleigh and won by 50 runs.
Skipper Greg Bridget, batting at number five, led from
the front with an excellent 68 and there were later-order
runs from Rob Gaylard (31) and Brian Gaylard (30) in a
Roborough total of 222 all out. Pick of the K&B bowlers
were Will Sykes (3-50), Greg Robinson (3-25)
Darren Bartrop and Simon Glover each took a couple of
wickets as the visiting K&B lads were restricted to
172 for nine. Robinson top scored with 53 before he was
one of three run-outs claimed by Roborough.
Danny North, Martin House and Simon Glover were the Roborough
players to knock over the stumps from the outfield.
West Indian all-rounder Sergio Fedee made an instant impact
for Kingskerswell in their five-run win away to Exeter
Civil Service.
Fedee, who only arrived in the country on the morning
of the match, hit a fine half-century in his side's 176
for eight. There were two wickets each for Rehan Caryl
and Vic Murphy. Civil's Ritchie Burnett had to retire
hurt on 19 after he and Greg Newcombe got Civil off to
a good start.
Newcombe went for a top score of 53 before a couple of
the side's younger players nearly completed a successful
run chase. Joe Eady was 24 not out at the close, and a
14 year old, making his Senior debut for the 1st XI, Ryan
Mills hit a cultured 24. The overs ran out with Civil
just six runs shy of a memorable win.
Fedee picked up two of the seven Civil wickets to fall.
The game at Dunsford, where Ashburton were the visitors,
did not take place as Dunsford were unable to raise a
side.
