A
DIVISION
TAVISTOCK
captain Steve Luffman insists there is nothing to
panic about despite a 53-run defeat by fellow strugglers
Chudleigh that has left his side joint bottom of the
A Division table.
Chudleigh were bowled out for 164 at the Ring, then
turned the tables on Tavvy by skittling them for 111.
Luffman said he wasn't complacent about Tavvy's situation,
but not alarmed by it either.
“Everyone has a bad run of form from time to time,
it seems we have more than our fair share of players
out of nick,” said Luffman.
“These things ease themselves out over a season and
there is plenty of time left to get it right. We have
only played six games and it's not as of we are that
far adrift as we are sill in touch with Barton and
Chudleigh.
“A couple of good results and we are in mid-table.”
Tavistock couldn't have wished for a better start
as Steve Dembitzer nailed Chudleigh opener Ed Hunt
with the first ball of the match.
Run scoring was hard work, but Chudleigh dogged it
out with Pat Bolster (58), Derek Perry (25) and Mark
Hulse working hard to get the tally up to 135 for
four.
Shaun Cleave (5-39) and Andy Gauler (2-33) bowled
Tavvy into contention by taking the last six wickets
for 29 runs as Chudleigh keeled over.
Tavistock were in trouble right from the start of
their reply as Ed Foreman (2-24) and Graeme Wilson
(3-30) had them reeling at 14 for four. Foreman had
Andy Kaitiff and Ian Gray both lbw for nothing.
Mark Webber (25) and Cleave (18) tried to retrench,
but time was on Chudleigh's side.
Skipper Derek Perry (4-23) picked off stragglers
as Tavvy were bundled out with nine overs to go.
BRADNINCH
are the new leaders of the A Division after sidestepping
the showers at South Devon long enough to win by nine
wickets.
Cornwood were top of the table, but their game against
Braunton was called off shortly after tea when a hail
storm emptied over Oak Park.
Bad weather meant a late start and a long tea
at South Devon, where the game was limited to 34 overs
a side.
South Devon started well enough, they were 61 for
two thanks to runs from Marin Swannell (25) and Chris
Metters (27), but lost wickets as the overs ticked
down and finished on 94 for seven.
Adrian Ezquerro (3-17) and Joel Murphy (2-29) took
the bulk of the wickets to fall.
Gary Newall (25no) and Dan Hardy (27) got Bradninch
up and running with a stand of 66. Tim Piper (16)
was the other not-out batsman when the target was
passed in the 28 th over.
Bovey Tracey were chugging along nicely at Alphington,
where they were 58 without loss – Peter Bradley
and Andy Kingdon in occupation – when the rain
came.
Barton were 22 for one after four overs in their derby
clash with Brixham when the weather turned against
them.
CORNWOOD
are off the top of the A Division after their game
against visiting Braunton fell foul of a hail storm!
The new leaders are Bradninch, who dodged the showers
long enough to win by nine-wickets against previously
unbeaten South Devon.
Kevin Willcock dug Cornwood out of trouble against
Braunton by hitting 53 to rescue them from a worrying
64 for six. Three wickets had just fallen for one
run as Cornwood got into trouble against Barney Huxtable
(2-17) and Andy Paddison (2-34).
Willcock and Chris Parker (18) took the score up to
132 for eight when the partnership was broken by left-armer
Jon Baglow.
Baglow ran through the tail to claim five for 33 as
Cornwood were bowled out for 141 with an over to go.
Braunton were 14 for two after 15 overs when the ground
was blanketed in hail and the game called off.
