SNOW
stopped play at Heathcoat in the first North Devon League
game of the season!
Sunday's Division Two game against newly promoted Hatherleigh
started on time despite snow flurries in morning.
There might have been a chill in the air, but Heathcoat's
batsmen were too hot for Hatherleigh's bowlers, racking
up a whopping 325 for five in their 45 overs.
The snow held off until tea-time when down it came.
The only activity on offer after tea was snowballing,
which the younger elements in both sides enjoyed.
Blundell's School pupil Sam Smith spanked 155 off 93
balls for Heathcoat in a knock that contained 16 sixes
and seven fours.
Smith and Justin Williams (50) added 205 for the second
wicket with other contributions coming from Matt Parkes
(43) and an unbeaten 37 from Paul Elliot.
Gareth Tidball (2-34) and Rob Fishleigh (2-44) both
bagged a couple of wickets for Hatherleigh.
Heathcoat and Hatherleigh got the season started a weekend
earlier than is traditional.
The season has another 24 weeks to, run culminating
on the final round of fixtures on September 21.
There is more action this
weekend in thewith games in Division Two, Division Four
and Division Five.
This weekend there are games in Division Two at Filleigh
(v Braunton) and Hatherleigh (v Barnstaple & Pilton),
Division Four, at North Devon (v Shebbear) and two games
in Division Five, at Filleigh (v Halberton) and Bradnich
(v Nomansland).
