C DIVISION 2nd XI

PLYMOUTH had lower-order batsmen Nigel Hughes and Venu Komdamudi to thank for turning their game against Stoke Gabriel.

The city side were slow starters – after 17 overs they only had 23 on the board – and after a burst from Chris Samargis (2-46) were 30 for three.

Jake Foley (38) batted fluently before he became the first victim of Adam Bonaddio (3-47). Bonaddio, on his 2 nd XI debut, bowled with good pace to remove Keith Barlow and Ben Robins just as they were starting to take the initiative.

Stoke skipper Clive Burnell would have been anticipating an early tea when Plymouth were 138 for eight, but Hughes and Komdamudi hadn't worked up an appetite yet!

Komdamudi, smashed four sixes in a quickfire innings of 41 not out off 26 balls and added 49 unbroken with Hughes (18no) in a total of 187 for eight.

Stoke's reply was faltered after Samargis (25) fell to the accurate bowling of Reece Small (4-15). Robins then took three for 28 off 10 overs as Stoke dropped to 69 for six.

Burnell (20) and Tom Armstrong (21) battled to save the game, but Small, Robins and captain Al Stewart (2-16) dismissed Stoke in the 41 st over for 144 to give Plymouth a 43-run win.

Heathcoat clamed a six-wicket win over Kingsbridge who were bowled out for 92 thanks to Sean Andrews (4-19) and Mike Blackmore (3-32).

Jimmy Cridland (22no), Matt Parks (20) and Paul Hague (23) steered Heathcoat to the win.

An unbeaten 88 from youngster Jack Hockin, the Palladium U15 League batsman of the year in 2006, helped Plymstock make 177 for seven at Yelverton. Simon Beare's 57 and Steve West's 48 enabled the Moorlanders to claim a draw at 154 for four.

D DIVISION WEST 2nd XI

RICHARD Hayman hit a century for Ipplepen and still ended up on the losing side in Ipplepen's game against Cockington.

Hayman hit 101, but the rest of his team-mates only managed 34 between them as Ipplepen were bowled out for 135.

As the Pens were only chasing 142 to win, their six-run defeat would have been hard to take.

Earlier, Jim Mather (39) and Neil Colegate (38) had led the way for Cockington in their total of 141 for nine. Ipplepen's leading wicket-taker was young Shaun deFriend (3-11), who club insiders are tipping as one to watch out for in future.

Plymouth CS 3 rd XI won't want reminding too often that extras accounted for 30 of the 57 they scraped up against Plympton. Just to rub it in, former Civil all-rounder Paul Elsey (35no) saw Plympton home.
