Bayliss hitting the road for prostate cancer research
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2
PLYMOUTH Civil Service cricketer Dave Bayliss is getting on his bike to clock up the miles for charity.
Bayliss (pictured in the saddle) is participating in Tour of Britain 2010 sportive, cycling 100 miles from Minehead to Teignmouth on September 5.
This ride is raising money for The Prostate Cancer Charity, although that isn't Bayliss’s main reason for riding.
“I am doing the ride because I enjoy the challenge of taking part in these mass participation cycling events,” said Bayliss, who will be riding with Cornwood U13 team manager Gary Sargeant.
“They have asked us to raise money for prostrate cancer, which is a worthy cause. “
Bayliss was a keen cyclist as a youngster who rediscovered the joys of the open road a few years ago.
“My passion, other than cricket, is cycling,” said Bayliss.
“Over the last seven or eight years I have got back into it after doing a lot in my teenage years.
“During the winter and summer, when not playing or coaching I do a lot of cycling.
“In the last four years I have started to enter mass participation rides called Sportives. In 2010 I will be doing the Cornwall Classic, the Dartmoor classic and the Tour of Britian stage from Minehead to Teignmouth.
“So, after playing in the Devon League on the Saturday, I will be resting up for the rides on the Sunday's!!!
“I am cycling for my own enjoyment and fulfillment, but am happy to also raise sponsorship for this worthy charity.”
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK.
The charity is fighting prostate cancer on every front through research, information, support and campaigning.
