HOLDERS Dartington & Totnes have been drawn away to Cockington Corinthians in the first round of next season’s Brockman Cup competition – South Devon’s original Twenty20 tournament.

The draw, which was made at the competition’s annual meeting held in Babbacombe Cricket Club, threw up some interesting first-round ties.

Barton, back in the competition after a break of several seasons, play near neighbours Chelston.

Babbacombe, losing finalists last season, are up against 10-time finalists Stoke Gabriel.

Lustleigh, who have won six Brockman Cup finals, start out at Ipplepen. Bovey Tracey, who were drawn at home to Shaldon in the preliminary round, have withdrawn from the competition since the draw was made.

The full draw for the competition, now in its 78th year, is:

First round: Torquay v South Devon (Tuesday, May 11); Cockington Corinthians v Dartington & Totnes, Barton v Chelston, Brixham v Kingskerswell (Tuesday, May 18); Ipplepen v Lustleigh; Shaldon Optimists v Paignton; Stoke Gabriel v Babbacombe; Stokeinteignhead Abbotskerswell (Tuesday, May 25).

Second round: Brixham or Kingskerswell v Cockington Corinthians or Dartington & Totnes; Barton or Chelston v Stokeinteignhead or Abbotskerswell (Tuesday, June 1); Bovey Tracey or Shaldon Optimists or Paignton v Torquay or South Devon, Stoke Gabriel or Babbacombe v Ipplepen or Lustleigh (Tuesday, June 8).

Semi-finals (at Torquay CC): Friday, June 18 & Monday, June 21.

Final (at Torquay CC): Friday, July 2. Reserve date, Thursday, July 8.
