Disability cricket is growing at an ever faster pace. This season has seen the Southern Counties British Association for cricketers with Disabilities hard ball league grow to five teams. Next season should see the inclusion of Somerset, Kent and maybe more counties entering teams in the hard ball league. This can only be good for the game as all the players will get to play more cricket than before.

In Devon we have gradually picked up more players as the season has progressed. Sadly we have also lost some but this highlights areas of the game that we have to work on to make it more inclusive, so everyone can feel valued and part of the team.

Negotiations for kits sponsors for next season are ongoing. Various small companies have shown interest in sponsoring individual players and the team as a whole for next season. Hopefully we will build on our sponsors from last season, the most generous being Gary of Redback cricket, along with Pennine cricket, San Andreas Fault cricket, Lekka Cricket, Laver and Wood, Uzi sports,  Gunn and Moore and various other small companies and individuals who all sent in old and in most cases new equipment.

Without all these generous donations we would have struggled to have put a team out. Of special note is the unwavering support of the Devon Cricket Board and their staff who have supplied the team with fantastic shirts this season and have provided training facilities for us to use.  Next week the dates for winter training at the Devon indoor cricket centre will be posted along with their activity schedule. At present we are in negotiations with various Counties to have an indoor tournament to keep everyone on their toes and keen for next season.

The Devon disability cricket squad are fully inclusive of persons with varying levels of disabilities and are always looking for more players be they male or female. We have guys with disabilities ranging from Cerebral palsy to Spina Bifida, prosthetic hips knees etc and amputees etc, persons with learning and hearing difficulties. So if you are interested in a game of cricket with the Devon squad and want to know if you are eligible  get in touch with Perry Sprung on either 01392262509 or 07800585835 or via e mail at perry.sprung@devoncricket.co.uk and he will be more than welcome to discuss anything with you.

The Match against Essex on the 11th of July was called off due to Essex  player unavailability. We only found out at the last minute so many apologies if anyone turned up and we were not there. The next away match to Hampshire for the 25th of July has been rearranged to the 8th of August with a venue yet to be confirmed.

The next Home match is against the Isle of White on the 1st of August at Axminster  Cricket Club. The match start time is  one thirty so once again all are welcome to come along and have a fun day out. We are  waiting for confirmation from the British Association of Cricketers with Disabilities regional manager for information  if we are eligible to enter a squad into the super 4s physical disability tournament to represent Devon at the Malvern Cricket Centre on the weekend of the 24th/25th of July. When we get some news it shall be posted up here ASAP.

The pack has been devised to offer coaches and the general cricket enthusiasts some insight into strategies to use when coaching disabled players.

The ECB believes that cricket should be open and accessible to all. By providing this information to coaches we aim to remove the barriers for coaches working with disabled cricketers and build confidence; applying strategies and advice from the nation's top disability cricket coaches.
