ADRIAN Small and Matt Hopkins both cracked half-centuries in Sandford’s seven-wicket win over visiting Chudleigh.

Chudleigh were bowled out for 202 with 14 balls to go, which Sandford skipper Ryan Glass was a result in itself.

“We did really well to keep them to 202 on a real flat deck with a lighting quick outfield,” said Glass.

Chudleigh had one of those days when almost all their batters got in – opener Mark Solway was the exception – but no one made the 50-plus score to hang a big total on.

Paul Horne (30) and Matt Heather (39) put on 68 for the second wicket, Rob Clarke (43) and Corey Sinclair (36) added 45 for the fifth and there were chip-ins from Mark Heather (20) and Dan Coles (17).

Jamie Palmer – nine overs for 18 runs – was Sandford’s meanest bowler. Pete Steer, Tom Williams, Glass and Shaun Hawkins had two wickets each.

Small (60) and Russ Discombe (29) put on 76, then Hopkins joined Small to chalk off anther 51.

Hawkins (40) and Hopkins (52no) got the target down to 11 to win, most of which Pat Rowe got on a rapid nine not out.

“Adrian Small and Matt Hopkins set the chase up perfectly with Hawkins, who played a top knock,” said Glass.

Victory keeps Sandford in mid-table with promotion hopefuls Paignton at Queens Park the agenda item for this Saturday.

“Richard Foan and Matt Theedom are back for the Paignton game, which will be very tough as they are a quality side,” said Glass.
