PAIGNTON go into Saturday’s Queens Park clash with Sandford on the back of a 193-run won over Ipplepen.

Dan Wolf returned to form with 104 off only 89 balls in Paignton’s hefty total of 343 for seven.

Kevin Hinton then took five wickets for 24 runs to speed Ipplepen to 150 all out.

There is no change in the team’s respective league positions. Paignton are still third and Ipplepen remain bottom.

It was a winning start for Paignton’s new skipper Richard Ashworth, who took over from Chris Kelmere last week.

Kelmere’s form as captain wasn’t what he wished and freed from the burden he flourished.

After Noah Wright (27) and Wolf had taken Paignton to 82 for three with a partnership of 62, Kelmere came in and got on with it.

Kelmere’s eventual 81 off 88 balls formed the smaller portion of a sand of 121 with Wolf.

When Steve Bowden bowled Kelmere there was no respite for Pens’ bowlers as Ashworth flogged them for 62 while putting on 54 with Kelmere and 61 with Rob Shergold (27).

Ethan Keller and Joe Abbott had two wickets each for Pens.

Abbott led Ipplepen’s early resistance with 33 as wickets fell regularly at the other end.

Sam Wakeham made a rumbustious 51 off 26 balls after going in at 74 for five, but no one else made a double-figure score.

Wakeham was the last man out as the returning Hinton cleaned up the tail enders.

Pens are at home to second-bottom Ipplepen this Saturday.
