UPLYME’S Rhys Davies went one better than a hat-trick with four wickets in four balls in his side’s 103-run win over Feniton.

Steve Batey (51) and Mike Van Den Berg (73) constructed a stand of 122 towards the Uplyme total of 230 for six.

Earlier, Laurie Thomas (35) and Mark Brinicombe (37) had put on75 for the second wicket.

Charlie Selley (3-42) was the leading wicket taker. Jon French – nine overs for 12 runs – was the most effective bowler.

Mark Salter scored 36 for Feniton before Davies put a cat among the pigeons.

Feniton went from 82 for two to 82 for six and that was game over. Last man  Jon French made 26, but the game had gone by then.

Davies finished with five for 30 in Feniton’s total of 127 all out.

BARNSTAPLE & Pilton are off the bottom of the C Division East after cruising to a six-wicket win in the basement battle with Axminster.

Axminster, who are now bottom of the table, were bowled out for 153 in their 43rd over. They only had 10 men, which didn’t help.

Matt Pile got the early runs for Axminster with 42 off 69 balls after going in at two for one in the second over.

Max Felgate chipped in with 29 – he and Pile put on 37 – and skipper Paul Miller made 30. Other than opener Alan Ostler (13), no one else made more than eight!

Paul Schiller did most of the damage for B&P, taking five wickets for 20 runs.

Opener Tom Popham carried his bat for 63 as B&P knocked off the runs with more than 11 overs to spare.

There was a minor hiccough when Shaun Cole and Brady Saunders went close together, but Popham and Jack Moore (29) wiped off 53 then George McEndoo (18) and Lee Cole (12no) kept Popham company.

Barnstaple & Pilton’s third win of the season takes them off the bottom and within a point of Countess Wear, who are the side they have to overtake to leave the drop zone.

Steve Moore’ men get that chance this Saturday when they visit Countess Wear.

FILLEIGH are on the march up the C Division East table – as Seaton found out the hard way.

Seaton have been top of the table for most of the season, but had their lead over Uplyme trimmed to six points after losing by 22 runs at Deer Park.

Harley Ashdown (50) and Mark Prideaux (55) scored half-centuries for Filleigh in a total of 233 for seven.

Openers Ryan Bowden (42) and Justin Saker (21) gave Filleigh a start, the Ashdown and Prideaux put on 84 for the sixth wicket.

Seven bowlers took a wicket each for Seaton – Joel Seward (1-30 off 9) the most effective.

Seaton had a real go at getting the runs and at 115 for one with Seward (37) and Ed Hunt (58) going well were slight favourites.

A double strike by Bowden (2-39) meant Seaton had to start and that task was taken on by Ben Morgan (31).

Saker (4-31) put Seaton on the back foot and Jack Brazier (2-42) helped keep them there. Naill Waterhouse (22) had a go and only when he got out could Filleigh relax.

Filleigh make the relatively short trip to Clyst Hydon this Saturday.

KILMINGTON stayed in touch with the top three by handing out a 182-run beating to Clyst Hydon.

Opener Brett Garner slammed 123 – 19 fours and a six – as Kilmington made 315 for seven.

Tom Gooding had 32 of the first 46 on the board, then left Garner to lead the charge.

Garner was finally dismissed by former Exmouth seamer Mike Cliff with the score on 266 for five.

Along the way there had been stands with Matt Rockett (25) of 65, and one of 106 with Ian Gooding (63).

Will Thornton (3-50) had the most success of any Clyst bowler.

Clyst Hydon were always up against it after slumping to 41 for four in reply, but a stand of 41 between Chris Holmes (18) and Clint Lewis (26) revived them briefly.

Tom Olive (3-16) cut the revival short, Brett Garner (3-49) and Dan Fuzzard (2-27) got among the lower order and Hydon were all out for 133 in the 30th over.

CULLOMPTON kept the pressure on top two Seaton and Uplyme with a two-wicket win over Countess Wear.

Seaton are 15 points ahead in top spot and Uplyme only eight point in front in second.

Countess Wear looked nothing like a side hovering over the relegation places as they made 281 for seven.

Opener Manraj Johal Singh made 110 and was sixth out at 238. Along the way he shared a stand of 166 with James Bogue (71).

Lee Nessling (1-20 off 9) bowled a tidy spell while Brendon Parr  (3-56) and Adrian Pullin (2-43) were the main wicket takers.

Cullompton were 83 for three when Parr went out to bat and he hit an undefeated ton to clinch victory with 10 balls to spare.

Jack Grandfield (49) and Parr put on 88 for the fifth wicket, then Jake Dienes (18) added a further 54 with the ton-up batsman.

Parr was unbeaten on 114 when the winning post was past.

There were three wickets each for Kav Dias (3-43) and Mark Davey (3-55).
